Barillaro That the agenda for the May 19, 2026 Cultural Advisory Committee Meeting be approved. Carried Disclosure of Interest No disclosures of interest were noted. Approval of Minutes April 21, 2026, Meeting Minutes 1. 2. 3. 3.1 1 Moved By S. Almeida-Schroen That the Minutes of the April 21, 2026, Meeting of the Cultural Advisory Committee be approved. Carried Delegations/Presentations There were no delegations. New Business Equity, Diversity & Inclusion - City Events and Initiatives D. Machado-Yew Woon, Community Engagement Coordinator, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion appeared before the Committee via electronic connection to speak to the City of Pickering's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) events and initiatives. With the aid of a PowerPoint presentation, D. Machado-Yew Woon provided an overview of the City's 10-year EDI Strategy nothing that the Strategy focuses on five priority areas: education/awareness, structure/resources, community consultation, policies/programs, and measurement/accountability. Notable upcoming engagement opportunities included the Multi-Year Accessibility Plan renewal and the Anti-Black Racism Action Plan community survey. A brief question and answer period ensued between Committee Members and D. Machado-Yew Woon regarding: clarification on the distinction between short, medium, and long-term goals within the 10-year strategy; • where to locate the Accessibility and Anti-Black Racism surveys for public feedback; and, • whether there were opportunities to receive future updates from the EDI team and align efforts and stay informed on each other's progress. • Pickering Museum Village - May Update V. Karakian, Supervisor, Museum Services, Pickering Museum Village, appeared before the Committee and advised that the Pickering Museum Village officially opened for the season on the weekend of May 16-17, 2026 and was now located at the new Dorsay Community & Heritage Centre (DCHC). V. Karakian highlighted the Summer Programming which included the new Duffins Creek Festival, Parent and 4. 5. 5.1 5.2 Cultural Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes May 19, 2026 2 Tot programs, and skill based Adult Programs. Cultural Strategic Plan Presentation P. Huntsman, Culture & Communication Consultant appeared before the Committee via electronic connection to speak to the Cultural Strategic Plan and presented the draft 10-year Cultural Strategic Plan on screen. P. Huntsman advised that the Plan emphasized safety and sustainability and served as a high-level guiding document that integrated with other City strategies, such as the EDI Plan and the Arts and Public Places Plan. P. Huntsman encouraged the public and the Committee to provide feedback through various consultation channels. A question and answer period ensued between the Committee Members and P. Huntsman regarding: how the City plans to collect and analyze "positive feedback" as a quantitative performance indicator; • how climate change, sustainability, and and urban design were integrated into the broader cultural plan; and, • what methods of feedback collection were being used, and whether the Committee's feedback should be directed to staff. • Pickering Arts Culture Engagement (PACE) Subcommittee - Update It was noted that PACE would participate in the upcoming Cultural Fusion event, either to represent the Cultural Advisory Committee, showcase the mosaic project, or to help engage with residents. Cultural Advisory Committee Meeting Schedule - Update J. St. Amant, Coordinator, Cultural Services provided that there are three public art projects to be reviewed by the Cultural Advisory Committee before the end of the current Council Term, and that an additional meeting should be scheduled in September. Moved By A. Palmer That the Cultural Advisory Committee endorse an additional fully virtual meeting on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, to review the Public Art Jury selections. Carried 5.3 5.4 5.5 Cultural Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes May 19, 2026 3 Other Business J. St. Amant requested that two Cultural Advisory Committee members serve on the Public Art Jury for one week in June and one week in September. • J. St. Amant advised that the grand opening invitation for the Dorsay Community and Heritage Centre would be forwarded to Committee members. • J. St. Amant advised that the EDI presentation materials would be forwarded to Committee members. • K. Roberts advised that a showcase event would be held at the Dorsay Community and Heritage Centre to highlight the facility as an event venue, including for weddings. • S. Almeida advised that information provided by the Durham Anti-Racism Taskforce regarding two upcoming events would be shared with the Committee. • Correspondence There was no correspondence.
