5. New Business
5.1 Pickering Museum Village – April Update
V. Karakian, Supervisor, Museum Services, Pickering Museum Village, provided an
update regarding the Pickering Museum Village highlighting the Gather and Grow
joint project with the University of Toronto and the relaunching the Museums
membership program titled the Museum Innovators Program which included
various membership benefits.
A brief discussion between Committee Members and staff regarding whether the
membership program would include voting members.
5.2 Public Art - West Garden, Dorsay Community & Heritage Centre for
endorsement
E. Tayles, Curator, Public Art, Cultural Services appeared before the Committee to
present the three public art submissions for the West Garden Dorsay Community &
Heritage Centre, including submissions by Polymetis, LeuWebb Projects, and
Studio F Minus.
A brief discussion between Committee Members and staff ensued regarding
whether the Public Art would be an interactive display.

That the Cultural Advisory Committee endorses the shortlist selection of artists
Polymetis, LeuWebb Projects, and Studio F Minus for the project West Garden,
Dorsay Community & Heritage.

5.3 Temporary Public Art - Indigenous Bench for endorsement
E. Tayles, Curator, Public Art, Cultural Services provided a brief presentation
regarding the temporary public art opportunity for an Indigenous themed wrapped
bench at Pickering Museum Village, noting the Jury selected artist was Ryan
Woodruff.
A brief question and answer period ensued between Committee Members and staff
regarding:
• clarification that Akimbo was a website used to promote artists;
• the total cost of the project and whether the artist fee was consistent with
other artists fees; and,
• the expected lifespan of the public art installation and process for removing
the artwork once its lifespan had ended.

That the Cultural Advisory Committee endorses the Public Art Commission of the
Indigenous Bench be awarded to Ryan Woodruff.

5.4 Pickering Arts Culture Engagement (PACE) subcommittee – Update
There were no updates from the Pickering Arts Culture Engagement (PACE)
subcommittee.
6. Other Business
• J. St. Amant noted that an additional meeting of the Cultural Advisory Committee
would be proposed at the next meeting.
• J. St. Amant reported that the official opening of the Dorsay Community & Heritage
Centre (DCHC) would take place on June 13, 2026 and that an invitation would be
extended to the Cultural Advisory Committee (CAC) Members. J. St. Amant noted
that further information was available on the City of Pickering social media platforms
and the DCHC Webpage.
• J. St. Amant advised that a celebration for the Ernie Coombs public art opening was
scheduled for May 8, 2026 at 5:30 pm, including the unveiling of the Mr. Dressup
Magic sculpture.

- Museum Update
Opening Weekend
The Museum opened for the 2026 season on Saturday, May 16, with admission operations
commencing from the new Dorsay Community & Heritage Centre (DCHC). Visitor check-in now
takes place at the DCHC front desk with the Seasonal Museum Admission Receptionist. Upon
arrival, visitors receive an orientation and site map, with the option to purchase discovery kits to
enhance the visit. Access to the Museum is provided via the established pathway from the DCHC
to the Museum.
Members of the CAC are invited to visit the Museum during the operating season.
The Museum hours of operation are as follows:
Wednesday – Friday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (until August 28)
Saturday – Sunday 10:00 am – 4:30 pm (until September 6)

- September Meeting Update
The Cultural Services team is requesting that an additional meeting of the Cultural Advisory
Committee (CAC) be added to the schedule on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, to review the
selections of the Public Art Jury for the following public art projects:
• Community Banner Series
o top 3 artists selected for endorsement
• Window paintings at Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex
o top artist selected for endorsement
• Winter lights artwork through Ontario Power Generation Grant
o top artist selected for endorsement
This meeting is intended to be held virtually and only to review the public art projects listed above
that have been discussed previously at CAC meetings.
Background
As per section 09.01 of the Public Art Policy CUL 130, The Public Art Jury will be a formed on
an as-needed basis. The Public Art Jury will evaluate artist proposals and artwork donations in
accordance with the Artist Evaluation Criteria in Section 9.04 and Acquisition Criteria in
Section 10.0 of this Policy. The Public Art Jury is responsible to review artist submission and
narrow down selections for acquisition and present the top-ranked proposals to the
Cultural Advisory Committee, for final recommendation.
