New Business
Draft 2026 Meeting Schedule
E. Knox provided that 2026 is an Election year and that meetings will end in June
2026.

Homelessness Subcommittee Updates
C. Paxton provided a brief overview of the upcoming Whiskers and Wellness event
and noted that donations would continue to be accepted. C. Paxton noted that they
were seeking to broaden the participant and attendee list for the event and that
there would be take home meals and desserts provided for attendees.
C. Paxton and M. Eskins provided that a World Homeless Day flag raising event

would be held by Durham Region and that all Durham Region Municipalities were
invited. They noted that a celebratory event would be planned for the DARS
Farmhouse on an alternative date to allow for attendance at both events.
Discussion among Committee Members ensued regarding the Homelessness
Subcommittee and DARS planning a celebratory event at the DARS Farmhouse
and presenting details of the planned event at the November CSWAC meeting.
Training and Education
E. Knox provided a link to Make It Our Business and noted that it was a workplace
program designed to help employees recognize, respond to, and support individuals
experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV) or gender-based violence (GBV),
fostering a safer and more informed work environment. E. Knox provided that this
training would also be shared internally for staff training.
E. Knox provided a link to Egale Canada Workplace Inclusion Training and noted
that it was a program that educates employees on LGBTQ2S+ inclusion, fostering
respectful, equitable, and supportive workplace environments.
E. Knox provided a link to Dementia Friendly Communities and noted that a lunch
and learn, training session, provided by the Alzheimer’s Society of Durham Region,
was a program that raised awareness about dementia and equiped community
members to create supportive, inclusive, and accessible environments for people
living with dementia.
E. Knox provided a link to First People's Group Training, that was provided by the
First Peoples Group. E. Knox noted that this Indigenous Cultural Awareness
Training educated participants on Indigenous histories, cultures, and perspectives
to foster understanding, inclusion, and reconciliation.
E. Knox solicited Committee Members for feedback and suggestions for new lunch
and learn programs.
Discussion between Committee Members ensued regarding:
sharing dementia training with the public;•
menopause and peri-menopause;•
workshops offered by the Region; and,•
awareness surrounding homeless encampments.•

Events and Programs
E. Knox identified upcoming events:
October 5, 2025 - Whiskers and Wellness;•
September 27, 2025 - Community Safety Day with the City and DRPS;•
November 1, 2025 - Walk to End Intimate Partner Violence; and,•
November 5, 2025 - Community Safety Session on Intimate Partner Violence
and Gender Based Violence.

Discussion ensued between Committee Members regarding information concerning
the "Coldest Night of the Year" event and providing Halloween safety tips.
Durham Region Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) Updates
There were no updates from Durham Region Community Safety and Well-Being
(CSWB).
