Review and Approval of Agenda The Committee reviewed the agenda. Agenda approved. 2. Disclosure of Interest No disclosures of interest were noted. 3. Approval of Minutes Moved by C. Bamford That the Minutes of the April 10, 2025, Meeting of the Community Safety & Well Being Advisory Committee be approved. New Business 5.1 Community Safety and Well Being Annual Report E. Knox provided a brief overview of the 2024 Community Safety and Well Being Annual report and noted that this would be the first complete annual report that included all City initiatives, highlighting over 60 programs, events, training, and initiatives that occurred in 2024. E. Knox noted that the Report would be received for information at the June 23, 2025, Council Meeting. 5.2 Homelessness Subcommittee Update C. Paxton provided a brief overview of the screening of the “Us and Them” event, noting that it was well attended. C. Paxton noted two upcoming events to occur in the fall; the Whiskers and Wellness Event and the Homeless Day Event and that updates would be provided as information became available. 5.3 Training and Education E. Knox noted that the Human Trafficking: Lunch and Learn held April 16 and facilitated by Victim Services Durham Region was well attended and very informative. Committee Members noted that the event provided awareness and was a valuable learning experience. E. Knox provided updates on upcoming events regarding: • that the Intimate Partner Violence and Gender Based Violence: Lunch and Learn facilitated by Herizon House was scheduled for June 20, and that there was still room for registration; • that STEP Training, focused on professional de-escalation, mental health crisis response, and trauma-informed care would begin for City staff and registered Committee Members the week of June 16, 2025. • Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training would begin in the fall of 2025, details would be provided as it became available; • training with Egale Canada planned for fall 2025. E. Knox solicited committee members for input regarding future informational workshops. Discussion ensued among Committee Members regarding interest in additional Cyber-attack awareness seminars and introductions to the new Inspecter with the west division of the DRPS. Knox provided a brief overview of several Community Safety and Well Being led events including: • the DRPS Online Safety session, the Pride Flag raising, and the Durham Pride Parade; • Pride Movie Night would be rescheduled due to unforeseen circumstances; • that there were several interested parties in hosting a screening of “Us and Them”; and, • upcoming initiative in collaboration with Herizen House and other organizations pertaining to Intimate Partner Violence as an education session for residents. 5.5 Durham Region Community Safety and Well Being Updates J. Kamalanathan introduced themself, noting that they would inform the Committee of any related upcoming training programs offered by Durham Region. 6. Other Business • C. Bamford noted that food insecurity in Pickering and Ajax was a year-round concern and that most grocery stores have a list of most needed items and space to donate. • M. Eskins provided that DARS would be presenting a pre-screening of a documentary about the DARS Farmhouse in July and that they were organizing an event that could include a larger audience in the fall of 2025. 7.
