1. Welcome and Call to Order
D. Thompson welcomed members of the Cultural
Advisory Committee (CAC) and called the meeting to
order.
2. Review and Approval of Agenda
D. Thompson put forth a motion for adoption of the
current agenda as circulated.

4. Approval of Previous Minutes
D. Thompson put forth a motion for the adoption of
the minutes as circulated.

5. Presentations/Delegations
There were no delegations for this meeting.
6. General Business
6.1 – Public Art Award – Permanent Art Panels at
Beachfront Park: Final Designs – for
endorsement
C. Farrell provided a brief overview regarding the
endorsement by the Public Art Jury’s selection to 5
artists for the designs of panels that will be installed
to form part of the railing system for the elevated
walkway and cycling structure that is being
constructed at Beachfront Park.
After deliberation, the Public Art Jury decided to
award the opportunity to the following artists:
• Tessa Shank
• Emily Clairoux
• Koren Smoke
• Dee Barsy
• Nyle Miigizi Johnstone
The final design were submitted to City Staff on May
9, 2025. Concepts were shared with the community
providing an opportunity for public engagement,
learning and feedback.
Each of the five selected artists will receive a fee of
$9,000.00 (plus HST), which covers one in person

community consultation, up to two rounds of
revisions, the design of four artworks, and the
collective design of two informational panels. In May
2025, the endorsed designs will be sent to a
fabricator to be laser cut into steel panels for the
elevated walkway. A total of 20 panels will be
installed into the boardwalk railing along with the two
informational panels that speak to the theme of the
artwork and artist backgrounds.
The unveiling is scheduled for July 2025.
J. St. Amant states the designs shown in the photos
attached to the agenda are to be ‘negative’ cut-outs
that best show their design as this will be cut onto
steel panels. C. Farrell adds that the designs will also
comply with the Ontario building Code.
J. St. Amant confirms that 5 different artists have
been selected for this project to showcase their works
– a total of 20 panels of 4 designs for each artist.
S. Ramoutar inquires regarding of the maintenance
required for these art panels. C. Farrell advises that
our Operations Staff do their best to ensure they are
upkept.
Lastly, J. St. Amant advises A. Mostert will be
finalizing the finishing touches required to ensure the
right material and building code are in place for the
art panels.
C. Farrell is seeking endorsement from the Cultural
Advisory Committee.

6.2 – Pickering Museum Village – Update
V. Karakian provided a brief update regarding the
Pickering Museum Village and the upcoming
programs offered. The museum is officially open for
the season as of Saturday, May 17, 2025.

The weekend events included games, crafts, guided
tours, heritage demonstrations, prizes, and more. We
invite CAC members to join us to explore the
Museum this season.
Some of the programs for May include:
- Bearded Iris Blacksmithing Workshop
- Mother’s Day Tea
- Little Sprouts
- Museum Masterpiece: Paint in the Village
- Plot to Plate: Heritage Edition
Some of the programs for June include:
- Saturday S’mores
- BBQ Skewers & Steak Flipper Blacksmithing
Workshop
- Jar Vase Workshop
- Family Adventure Day: The Amazing Museum
Race
- Little Sprouts
V. Karakian provided an update regarding the
Redman House as RHPC will be undergoing
construction beginning the second week of June.
This will include restoration of the outside, eco
upgrades to lighting and windows, as well as an
office space on the second floor for staff.
V. Karakian provided an update regarding the
Pickering Heritage and Community Cente as
construction on the PHCC is on track for April 2026
completion. The concrete pour for PHCC is complete
and metal framing is complete for the basement and
ground floor. Drywall installation is to begin mid-July.
HVAC, electrical, and plumbing elements have begun
to be roughed in.
M. McFarland inquires if the Blacksmithing Workshop
correlate with Health and Safety Codes. V. Karakian
responds stating yes, it does comply.
V. Karakian advises that maintenance Staff are
working to revive and save the peonies on site before
Plot to Plate begins on May 31, 2025.

6.3 – Pickering Arts Culture Engagement (PACE)
Subcommittee – Update
M. McFarland advised there were no updates for this
Cultural Advisory Committee meeting.
D. Thompson brought forth discussion regarding the
Cultural Fusion Consultation that occurred on
Monday, April 28, 2025. D. Thompson and S.
Almeida were in attendance of the consultation.
C. Farrell advises that we are still in the early stages
of planning Cultural Fusion and will be hosting
another consultation session in June.
There were no additional questions.

Committee members.
7. Correspondence
There was no additional correspondence to report.
8. Other Business
J. St. Amant advised that the final design for the
Remembrance Day Crosswalks have been finalized
(as shown in the agenda) and approved. The report
for this design will go to Council in June for final
funding and approvals.
C. Farrell advises of the Cultural Advisory Committee
members – D. Thompson and J. Baricuatro have
been selected as winners of the 2024 Cultural
Diversity Civic Award. The award ceremony took
place on Monday, May 12, 2025.
