1. Welcome and Call to Order
D. Thompson welcomed members of the Cultural
Advisory Committee (CAC) and called the meeting to
order.
2. Review and Approval of Agenda
D. Thompson put forth a motion for adoption of the
current agenda as circulated.

4. Approval of Previous Minutes
D. Thompson put forth a motion for the adoption of
the minutes as circulated.

5. Presentations/Delegations
There were no delegations for this meeting.
6. General Business
6.1 – Public Art Award – Lest We Forget
Remembrance Crosswalks – for endorsement
J. St Amant provided a brief overview based on the
Directive from November 25, 2024, Resolution
#616/24 to consult with the Royal Canadian Legion
Branches #606 and #483 to discuss the suitability of
the design and installation of the “Lest We Forget”
crosswalks, funded from the Public Art Reserve and
the design have been finalized.
M. McFarland inquired where this will be placed. J.
St. Amant states each design #1 will be placed in
Claremont (old Brock Rd across from the Legion) and
design #2 in City Center – Valley Farm and
Esplanade South.
J. St. Amant is seeking endorsement from the
Cultural Advisory Committee.

6.2 – Public Art Project – Community Banner
Series – for review
J. St. Amant provided a brief overview regarding a
Call to Artists to create a series of seven street
banners digitally, to be fabricated and installed by the
City on seven City light poles. The Community
Banner Series call for expression of interest (EOI)
seeks artists to propose street banner designs that
will animate and transform the street into a
welcoming and engaging spaces. Artwork is to be
created digitally and will be recreated onto vinyl street
banners. The artwork will be located within the City of
Pickering.
Community Services Staff and the Public Art Jury will
review EOI submissions and identify a short-list
(Stage 1) based on artistic excellence and
demonstrated or perceived ability to create and
execute an innovative, engaging public artwork
banner that is complementary to the overall design
scheme and community context. Decisions of the
Public Art Jury are reviewed by the Cultural Advisory
Committee and are final, pending approval of the
Director, Community Services as per the Community
Banner Policy CUL 140.
J. St. Amant states that archived banners have the
opportunity to be refurbished once it’s time has been
complete.

6.3 – Pickering Museum Village Update
V. Karakian share a brief update regarding the
upcoming Pickering Proud Exhibit in the lobby of City
Hall from April 7 to December 31, 2025. The target
audience is Pickering residents and is intended to
promote civic pride through familiarization with
interesting figures with a connecting to Pickering.

This will coincide with the outdoor 25th Anniversary
public art banners at City Hall and Chestnut Hill
Developments Recreation Complex, to be installed in

6.6 – Pickering Arts Culture Engagement (PACE)
Subcommittee – Update
J. Wei provided a brief overview of the Cultural
Fusion Event and had asked if the Cultural Advisory
Members had questions regarding the upcoming
event. J. Wei states the Cultural Advisory Committee
members can have a booth setup on the day of the
event.
J. Wei invites the Cultural Advisory Committee to the
Cultural Fusion Consultation on April 28, 2025.
M. McFarland shares an idea the PACE members
had suggested to attract more people to Cultural
Fusion. M. McFarland proposes to include a ‘food
passport or stamp cards. Additionally, J. St. Amant
states this is possible to look into collaborating with
the participants/restaurants in Cultural Fusion.

Work Plan has been received and reviewed by the
CAO and Director – which will be going to council
Monday, May 26, 2025.
