Moved M. McFarland. Cultural Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes March 18, 2025. Carried. 5. Presentations/Delegations There were no delegations for this meeting. 6. General Business 6.1 – Public Art Award – Lest We Forget Remembrance Crosswalks – for endorsement J. St Amant provided a brief overview based on theDirective from November 25, 2024, Resolution#616/24 to consult with the Royal Canadian LegionBranches #606 and #483 to discuss the suitability of the design and installation of the “Lest We Forget” crosswalks, funded from the Public Art Reserve andthe design have been finalized. M. McFarland inquired where this will be placed. J.St. Amant states each design #1 will be placed in Claremont (old Brock Rd across from the Legion) and design #2 in City Center – Valley Farm andEsplanade South. J. St. Amant is seeking endorsement from the Cultural Advisory Committee. Moved by M. McFarland. All in favour. There were no additional questions. Carried. St. Amant provided a brief overview regarding a Call to Artists to create a series of seven street banners digitally, to be fabricated and installed by the City on seven City light poles. The Community Banner Series call for expression of interest (EOI) seeks artists to propose street banner designs that will animate and transform the street into a welcoming and engaging spaces. Artwork is to be created digitally and will be recreated onto vinyl street banners. The artwork will be located within the City of Pickering. Community Services Staff and the Public Art Jury will review EOI submissions and identify a short-list (Stage 1) based on artistic excellence and demonstrated or perceived ability to create and execute an innovative, engaging public artwork banner that is complementary to the overall design scheme and community context. Decisions of the Public Art Jury are reviewed by the Cultural Advisory Committee and are final, pending approval of the Director, Community Services as per the Community Banner Policy CUL 140. J. St. Amant states that archived banners have the opportunity to be refurbished once it’s time has been complete. Moved by D. Davis. All in favour. There were no additional questions. Carried. 6.3 – Pickering Museum Village Update V. Karakian share a brief update regarding the upcoming Pickering Proud Exhibit in the lobby of City Hall from April 7 to December 31, 2025. The target audience is Pickering residents and is intended to promote civic pride through familiarization with interesting figures with a connecting to Pickering. Wei provided a brief overview of the Cultural Fusion Event and had asked if the Cultural AdvisoryMembers had questions regarding the upcomingevent. J. Wei states the Cultural Advisory Committeemembers can have a booth setup on the day of theevent. J.Wei invites the Cultural Advisory Committee to theCultural Fusion Consultation on April 28, 2025. M.McFarland shares an idea the PACE members had suggested to attract more people to CulturalFusion. M. McFarland proposes to include a ‘foodpassport or stamp cards. Additionally, J. St. Amantstates this is possible to look into collaborating withthe participants/restaurants in Cultural Fusion. Moved by M. McFarland. All in favour. There were no additional questions. Meeting Adjourned: 8:22 pm Copy: Director, Community Services Memo To: Cultural Advisory Committee May 13, 2025 From: Cristopher Farrell Supervisor, Cultural Services Copy: Director, Community Services Manager, Cultural Services Subject: Public Art – Permanent Art Panels at Beachfront Park: Final Designs -For Endorsement Background: The Cultural Advisory Committee endorsed the Public Art Jury’s selection of five artists for the designs of panels that will be installed to form part of the railing system for the elevated walkway and cycling structure that is being constructed in Beachfront Park. In May 2025, the selected artists concepts were shared with the community, providing an opportunity for public engagement, learning and feedback. The final designs were submitted to City staff on May 9, 2025. Funding: As part of Council’s approval of Tender No. T2024-7 for the Beachfront Park Master Plan, Phase 1 Implementation and the Alex Robertson Park Gravel Parking Lot (Report number ENG 15-24), $80,000 was approved for Indigenous Public Artwork and Interpretive Signage. Account C10320.2206.01. Each of the five selected artists will receive a fee of $9,000.00 (plus HST), which covers one in- person community consultation, up to two rounds of revisions, the design of four artworks, and the collective design of two informational panels. Next Steps: In May 2025, the endorsed designs will be sent to a fabricator to be laser cut into steel panels for the elevated walkway. A total of 20 panels will be installed into the boardwalk railing along with the two informational panels that speak to the theme of the artwork and artist backgrounds. The unveiling event for this is scheduled for July 2025. The weekend events included games, crafts, guided tours, heritage demonstrations, prizes, and more. We invite CAC members to join us to explore the Museum this season. The Museum will be open: Wednesday – Friday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm until August 31 Saturday – Sunday 10:00 am – 4:30 pm until September 7 May Program Listing: Bearded Iris Blacksmithing Workshop May 3 & 4 A blacksmith led program to create bearded iris plant stakes or garden decorations. This program sold out quickly and continues to be requested. Mother’s Day Tea May 10 & 11 The annual Mother’s Day Tea with treated carefully crafted by Museum volunteers. This year the tea will be held at George Ashe Community Centre and Library due to construction at the Museum. This program was less popular due to the change in venue this year. A kind thank you to V!VA for sponsoring in-kind by providing tea sandwiches and to Sasha from CAC and Trademark Your Style Décor for sponsoring in-kind by providing décor for the event. May 13, 2025 Page 2 of 3 Pickering Museum Village – Museum Updates Little Sprouts *new* May 25 A new parent and tot program occurring monthly throughout the summer with rotating nature themes. This parented program runs monthly throughout the summer with a different theme each month. Museum Masterpiece: Paint in the Village May 30 An artist led program for beginners to create a Spring-inspired painting at the scenic setting of the Museum Village. Plot to Plate: Heritage Edition *new* May 31 Participants register for a garden plot to grow heritage variety veggies throughout the season with a garden instructor weekly to provide guidance. June Program Listing: Saturday S’mores *new* June 7 A camp-style family program with a crafts, activities, a campfire, and smores! This program runs monthly throughout the summer with a different theme each month. BBQ Skewers & Steak Flipper Blacksmithing Workshop June 14 & 15 A blacksmith led program to create BBQ tools. Jar Vase Workshop *new* June 21 A guided woodworking workshop to create a decorative wooden jar vase holder. Family Adventure Day: The Amazing Museum Race *new* June 28 A site-wide event with activities and challenges for the whole family. May 13, 2025 Page 3 of 3 Pickering Museum Village – Museum Updates Site Update Redman House Program Centre (RHPC) RHPC will be undergoing construction beginning the second week of June. This will include restoration of the outside, eco upgrades to lighting and windows, as well as an office space on the second floor for staff. Pickering Heritage and Community Centre (PHCC) Construction on the PHCC is on track for April 2026 completion. The concrete pour for PHCC is complete and metal framing is complete for the basement and ground floor. Drywall installation is to begin mid-July. HVAC, electrical, and plumbing elements have begun to be roughed in and we are excited to see the building taking shape.
