Welcome and Call to Order D. Thompson welcomed members of the Cultural Advisory Committee (CAC) and called the meeting to order. 2. Review and Approval of Agenda D. Thompson put forth a motion for adoption of the current agenda as circulated. Moved by M. McFarland. Cultural Advisory Committee Meeting Agenda May 21, 2024. Carried 3. Approval of Minutes D. Thompson put forth a motion for the adoption of the minutes as circulated. Moved R. Coelho Cultural Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes April 16, 2024. Carried 5. Presentations and Delegations There were no delegations for the meeting. 6. General Business 6.1 M. McFarland RE: Pickering Arts Culture Engagement (PACE) Subcommittee Update M. McFarland spoke to the following updates as outlined in the PACE Report to the Cultural Advisory Committee: 1. PACE had a meeting on May 15, 2024, to discuss Objectives 1, 2, and 3 of the Subcommittee’s workplan including the body of a draft email to be distributed to a select number of community groups, Appendix “A” pending CAC approval; and, 2. PACE’s interest in bringing forth motion for a Public Art Piece as outlined in Objective 3 of the PACE report that represents the Pickering Mosaic and the workplan. A discussion ensued. Under the advisement of K. Roberts, being that it would be important to prepare a Report to Council outlining community consultation outcomes and budget requests for the Public Art Piece as included in the CAC’s workplan for 2025. Additionally, some of these objectives could be included in the renewal and redevelopement of the Cultural Strategic Plan, slated to begin at the Q4 of 2024. McFarland requested the proposed motion to Objective 3 as written and noted in the report be withdrawn. Carried 6.2 S. Barakov RE: Public Art Commission: Poppy Sidewalk Markers For Endorsement S. Barakov spoke to details of the Council Directive form January 30th, 2024, Resolution #392/24: 1. The Public Art Jury selected Artist, Linfeng Zhou to commission the sculpture. 2. Installation is scheduled for October 2024. There were no questions. S. Barakov requested endorsement from the Cultural Advisory Committee for Resolution #391/24 including the selected Artist, Linfeng Zhou. Moved by M. McFarland Carried 6.3 S. Barakov RE: Utility Box Wraps: Call to Artists For Endorsement S. Barakov spoke to details of the Call to Artists for the Utility Box Wraps: 1. The project is titled Art Junction: Utility Box Wraps and includes the Call to Artists; 2. Four Artist’s will be selected with each being paid $2,000 each for the creation of the work; and, 3. The final artworks are to be installed in late August 2024. A discussion ensued including questions about the theme expectations of the project. S. Barakov spoke to the artistic theme expectation for the utility box wraps being the history of the area that honour the land and previous caretakers. Barakov requested endorsement from the Cultural Advisory Committee. Moved by M. McFarland Carried 6.4 S. Barakov RE: Public Art Project Updates S. Barakov spoke to the following Public Art updates: 1. Public art activations at Artfest May 25, 26, 2024, including the proposed Gordon Lightfoot commemorative art piece concept presentation opportunity and votes to be presented to the Public Art Jury; 2. The public art unveiling of On the Backs of Fish at the Pickering Museum Village on June 7, 2024; 3. The installation of The Many Roles of Nonstop Blooms by Artist Laura Kay Keeling at Rotary Frenchman’s Bay West Park; and, 4. The Roots to Rebellion Launch at the Pickering Museum Village on July 20, 2024. There were no questions. 6.5 K. Bradley RE: Pickering Museum Village Updates K. Roberts spoke on behalf of K. Bradley speaking to the following updates for the Pickering Museum Village. K. Bradley, who joined the meeting virtually, experienced technical difficulties and was unable to present the memo. 1. The rejuvenation projects for the Log House and Log Barn as well as the site location move for the Harvey House and Puterbaugh School House; 2. Construction updates for the Pickering Heritage and Community Centre; 3. The Roots to Rebellion Launch; 4. The Pickering Museum Village education programs; and, 6. The upcoming Public Programs that will be offered at the Pickering Museum Village. There were no questions. 7. Correspondence There was no additional correspondence to report. 8. Other Business 8.1 K. Roberts spoke to a directive from Council requesting Staff to investigate the Post Manor Building located at 1970 Brock Road, Pickering, and a feasibility study for the conversion of the Heritage Building into an Art Gallery. The City of Pickering is currently working with a consultant for the study. Staff would like to include the Cultural Advisory Committee in the consultation process. 8.2 S. Almeida-Schroen inquired about event postings on the City of Pickering Events Calendar. 1. When would details of National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, 2024, be posted? 2. The Summer Popup Market on July 6, 2024, at the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex, a third-party event, not posted on the Events Calendar. K. Roberts spoke to the process of posting events on the Calendar, in specific, events organized by third parties. A brief discussion ensued. There were no further questions. K. Roberts to action forwarding the details to J. St. Amant for the Post Manor Study. K. Roberts to action details of National Indigenous Peoples Day being posted on the City of Pickering website. 9.
