BY-LAW NUMBER 4676/9 5
Being a by-law to amend By-law No.
354/76 respecting the payment and
collection of taxes.
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Picketing enacted By-law
Number 354/76 on February 2, 1976 to provide for the payment and collection of general
taxes, including local improvement assessments, sewer rents and rates, and of other rents
or rates payable as taxes and to provide for the payment and collection of school taxes for
public, secondary and separate school purposes; and
WHEREAS by Resolution #170/95 passed on August 8, 1995, Council authorized an
additional payment option, being the provision often post-dated cheques;
NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF
PICKERING HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. Sections 6 to 14 of By-law Number 354/76 are hereby renumbered as Sections 7
to 15 respectively.
2. By-law Number 354/76 is hereby further amended to add Section 6 as follows:
6. Notwithstanding Clauses 3, 4 and 5 above, and provided all taxes payable
by the taxpayer in any year prior to the current year, plus penalties and
interest thereon, are paid in full, the Tax Collector is hereby authorized to
accept ten post-dated cheques dated monthly, commencing January 1 st and
ending October 1st, inclusive; the first five cheques dated January 1st to
May Ist, will pay the interim tax bill installment in five equal consecutive
monthly part payments; and the second five cheques dated June 1st to
October 1st will pay the final tax bill installment in five consecutive equal
monthly part payments. Failure by the taxpayer to pay any one monthly
part payment amount will invoke the penalty provisions set out in Clause 4
of this by-law.
3. This by-law shall take effect on January 1, 1996.
By-law read a first, second and third time and finally passed this 2nd day of October,
1995.
