HomeMy WebLinkAboutBy-law 4608/95 THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF PICKERING BY-LAW NO. 4608 /95 Being a by-law to Regulate Traffic by Imposing Left Turn Prohibitions WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of subsection 144(9) of the Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, chapter H.8, every driver shall obey every sign posted at an intersection forbidding a left turn, i.e. imposing a left turn prohibition; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of section 210.123 of the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1990, chapter MA5, the Council of The Corporation of the Town of Pickering may pass by-laws for regulating traffic on the highways, including forbidding a left turn, i.e. imposing a left turn prohibition; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of section 34(1) of the Regional Municipalities Act, R.S.O. 1990, chapter R.8, no by-law passed by the Council of The Corporation of the Town of Pickering for the regulation of traffic on a highway under its jurisdiction and control shall come into force unless it has been approved by the Council of The Regional Municipality of Durham; NOW THEREFOR ~-<'--,,~eil of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: - --- 1. THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF PICKERING BY-LAW NO. 4608 /95 Being a by-law to Regulate Traffic by Imposing Left Turn Prohibitions WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of subsection 144(9) of the Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, chapter H.8, every driver shall obey every sign posted at an intersection forbidding a left turn, i.e. imposing a left turn prohibition; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of section 210.123 of the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1990, chapter M.45, the Council of The Corporation of the Town of Pickering may pass by-laws for regulating traffic on the highways, including forbidding a left turn, Le. imposing a left turn prohibition; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of section 34(1) of the Regional Municipalities Act, R.S.O. 1990, chapter R.8, no by-law passed by the Council of The Corporation of the Town of Pickering for the regulation of traffic on a highway under its jurisdiction and control shall come into force unless it has been approved by the Council of The Regional Municipality of Durham; NOW THEREFORE, the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: 1. Signs shall be posted at the intersections named in Column 1 of Schedule A hereto, for the purpose of forbidding left turns by traffic proceeding in the direction and on the street named in Column 2 of that Schedule, during the times and on the days named in Column 3 of that Schedule. 2. For the purposes of Item 1 of Schedule A, the term "traffic" excludes, (a) an emergency vehicle, as defined in subsection 144(1) of the Highway Traffic Act, as amended from time to time; and (b) a bus being operated by or for a school board or The Corporation of the Town of Pickering. 3. Schedule A hereto shall form part of this by-law. 4. This by-law shall not come into force unless it has been approved by the Council of The Regional Municipality of Durham.
