BROUGHAM.
An EMERGENT MEETING of ~Council was held on MAY 31st 1951,~ at
eight o' cieck i'n the evening.
PRESENT: Reeve W.H.Westney, in the Chair
Deputy-Reeve N.E. McEwen
Councillor C.A.Balsdon
" F.E.Zinkie
" M.B.Bu~k.
The Committee of Fire A~ea No.1 - comprising Bert Cane, Albert Hull,
Harold Mitchell and Earl Taylor - were heard concerning proposed new
fire hall. They stated it would be fifty feet by sixty feet
(50' X 60,) - one storey of cement block, and s~uggested it be used
for Police ~offic~es. Council gave no assurance they would use
this Building, becau~se thee Police Commission was agains.t combining
~such departments, but reco-w, ended that the Co---ittee~ engage an
architect amd proceed with plans. Council also recommended the
Committee engage a bulldozer to level the lot~ as~ the Township has
no such equipment.
The Police~ Village of PiCketing Trustees again~ discussed water
and asked that Council pass a zoning by-law.
MOVED by Mr. C.A. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. M.B.Burk, that the
mo-~ng by-law as prepared by Mr. Grant, be placed before Council
for consideration. CARRI
BY?LAW NO. 1870. ~
Mr. M.B.Bu~k, seconded by Mr. O.A.Balsdon, moves for leave to
introduce a By-law to amend By-law No. 1787 to restrict certain
lands in the Township of Picketing to be used for certain purposes,
and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. M.B.Burk, seconded by Mr. F.E.Zinkie, moves that By-law No.1870
to amend By-law No. 1787 to restrict certain lands in the Township
of Picketing to be used for certain purPoses~ be now read a second
time and that the Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
Mr. M.B.Burk, seconded by Dr.N.E.McEwen, moves that the Report of
the Committee of the ~hole on By-law No. 1870 be adopted, and that
the said By-law be now read a third time and passed; that the Reeve
-and~Cterk-stgn the same~ and that the seal of the Corporation be

BY-LAW NO. 1871.
Mr. F.E.Zinkie, seconded by Mr. M.B.Bu~k, moves for leave to
introduce ~a ~By-l'aw to ~increase the salaries of certain Police
~0fficers, and that same now be read a first time.
Mm. F.E.Zinkie, seconded by Mr. C.A.Balsdon, moves that By-law
No. 1871 to increase the salaries of certain Police Officers,
be now read a second time, and that the Council go into Committee
of the Whole thereon.
Mr. F.E.Zinkie, seconded by Mr. N.E. McEwen, moves that the
Report of the Committee of the Whole on By-law No. 1871 be
adopted, and that the said By-law be now read a third time and
passed; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and that the
seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRI~
BY-LAW NO. 1872.
Mr. Clare Balsdon, seconded by Dr. N.E.McEwen, moves for leave to
introduce a By-law to amend By-law No. 18~; in respect of interest
rate on $~9,000. Debentures School Sectioa No. 2, and that same now
be read a first time.

By-law No. 1872 to amend By-law No. 18~!~. in respect of
interest rate on $h9,000. Debentures, School Section No.2,
be now read a second time, and that Council go into
Committee of the Whole thereon.

that the Repot of the Committe6 Of the Whole on By-law
No. 1872 be adopted, and that the-said By-law be now read
a third time and passed; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the
same,-and that the seal of the' Corporation be affixed
thereto. CARRIED.

that wall safe be purchased from J' & J. Taylor for
$333 · 70 · CARRIED.
MOVED by M~. M.B.Bumk, seconded by Dr. N.E. McEwen, that
a-~ecess~ry mileage of Councilmen outside the Town~hip
be paid at current rate, same to be paid a~ end of year, CARRIED.

and Mr. Zinkie 35).

1. Humry up W.J.Hare re Fire Hall deed·
2. Call Mm. L.A.Boucher, regardingfirst coat for paving,
or oil, for Altona Road. (Mr. Boucher told ~lerk he
would try to come down Monday, June hth next, or advise
Mr. Ward to put on firSt'coAt for paving.)
3. If_Mr. 'Boucher cannot come, contact Scarboro' for oil.
