LA meeting of the Pickering Township Museum Board was held on
FRIDAY, the TWENTIETH day of MAY, 1966, at the Municipal Building,

MOVED by Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mrs. Hay, that the Minutes
ofjApril 26, 1966, be approved. C *RRIED
L Mrs. Hay advised that the following week would be a busy one at
the Museum since Mr. Peter Fairburn 's Major Achievement Class
was coming each day to improve the grounds and restore some of the
L articles, and ,several large classes had appointments to visit the
Museum. Mr. Miller volunteered to assist Mrs. Hay on Tuesday,
May 24; Mrs. Wisebrot said she would go on the same day to get
f publicity for the Museum, and Mrs. McPherson volunteered to assist
on'IMay 26th.

rMrs. Wisebrot advised that a barn on the Westney farm in Scarborough
was being demolished piece by piece, and Mr. Miller agreed to •
investigate the possibility of it being preserved; also to inter
Lview .Miss Eades, 'who resides on neighbouring property.

Mrs. McPherson advised that on Wednesday, June 22nd, a committee
of County Council were making a tour, and would like to include
the Museum. She said that representatives of six municipalities
would be in attendance - Whitby East, Whitby Township, Whitby Town,
Ajax, Pickering Village and Pickering Township.

MOVED by Mrs. Wisebrot, seconded by Miss Anderson, that a token of
hospitality in the form of maple sugar candy be presented the
guests at the time of the tour.

LMrs. McPherson agreed that she would contact the secretary as to
the time members of the tour would attend. Mr. Parkin asked to
be ' notified,

Centennial Souvenirs

A discussion .took place on Canadian maple sugar candy buds, and it
was agreed that their distribution, in suitable containers with
r inscriptions commemorating Canada' s Centennial, and noting the
L Pickering Township Museum, be a Centennial project.
E MO`JED by Mrs. Wisebrot, seconded by Mr. Parkin, that Mr. Grosart
purchase 250 celophane bags, with the wording "Compliments of Pickering '.
L Township Museum" inscribed tereon, up to a cost of $25. 00, and
that Miss Anderson order the candy at a 'cost of $12. 50. CARRIED i
J.LMrs. McPherson contributed the cost of the candy.

prepare 500 maps of V7hity Township at a cost of $100.00. CARRIED

Mr. Grosart suggested that this be a Centennial map. Agreed by
L t1 Board, and the matter of design was left to the discretion of
Mt. Grosart.

CORRESPONDENCE
1e Letter from Mrs. Rosella Cole, who donated her old house for
L the Centennial Village project. She asks that the building
f be moved 'soon.
r 2!! Letter from Metro and Region Conservation Authority, stetin.§. ;
that it would be pleased to donate barn on its property in
Uxbridge Township providing the premises were left in order.

July 9th be set as date for Strawberry Festival, and that Centennial
rFashion Show be asked to assist. CARRIED
MOVED by Miss Anderson, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, that a contest
L be held fora Festival Queen among Service Clubs, High School,
Legions, Fire Departments, etc. MOTION LOST

L II CENTENNIAL GRANT p

L Mr. Mitchell reported that he had contacted Mr. Martin, of the
Centennial Commission, who advised that a number of approved
applications were going out from Ottawa shortly, and that Pickering
L Township' s was one of them. (Official approval was later received,
on Wednesday, May 25th) .

mt. Mitchell also reported that 20 more copies of The Pickering
Story had been sold recently, and that there were 52 more books
L left to clear off debt to Township, with the balance of the books
to then to be turned over to the Historical Society.
•
Secretary was directed to inquire about Canadian Museums Association

and cost of membership. ,,
M�s. Hay demonstrated Centennial Stationery that she had purchased
for herself, and recommended that it be sold at the Museum at a
profit. .

of Centennial stationery be ordered at a cost of $50.00. CARRIED

M4 Grosart reported that an idea to purchase medallions with .the
former Curator's impression in rocking chair at log house,had been
L loloked into, and that dyes alone cost $700.00. This was felt by

the Board to be too costly, and tabled until funds were available..

L Mr. Miller will look into the condition of the Museum flag pole,

which Mr. Mitchell reported was broken.

L The matter of the Museum opening on Sunday mornings was left until

M . Grosart reported that the cost of envelopes to match Museum
Lstationery would cost: 1,000 for $34. 50, or 5,000, for $100.00.
