COUNCIL MEETING
A meeting of the Pickering Town Council
was held on MONDAY, J~UARY 10th, 1977
at 8:00 P.M.

OATH OF OFFICE
The Mayor took the oath of office and allegiance to the Queen
and was then presented with the chain of office by the
Administrator-Clerk. The Mayor took the chair.
The Councillors took the oath of office and allegiance to the
Queen.
(II)
REMARKS FROM MAYOR AND COUNCIL
The various Councillors and the Mayor spoke briefly of the
accomplishments of the past and the projects for the future.
(III) ADOPTION OF MINUTES
MOVED by Councillor Robertson, seconded by Councillor Anderson
that the minutes of the meeting of December 20th, 1976 be
adopted.

RESOLUTIONS
REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF DECEMBER 20th, 1976

Resolution 1/77
MOVED by Councillor Matheson, seconded by Councillor Anderson
that the recommendations contained in the Executive Committee
Report of December 20th, 1976 be adopted.

Resolution 2/77
MOVED by Councillor Kitchen, seconded by Councillor Anderson
that the following Department Head reports for the month of
December 1976 be adopted:
Administrator-Clerk
Planning Department
Treasury Department
Legal Department
Fire Department
Public Works Department
Recreation & Transportation
Department

BY-LAWS
By-law Number 502/76 - Third Reading
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-law
as read.
Councillor Robertson, seconded by Councillor Anderson,
moved that the report of the Committee of the Whole on
By-law Number 502/76 to amend By-law 4049/71 relating
to certain cemeteries in the Town of Pickering, and
moved that the said By-law be now read a Third Time
and PASSED, that the Mayor and Clerk sign the same,
and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto.
CARRIED
By-law read a first, second and third time and finally
passed.
By-law Number 539/77
Councillor Robertson, seconded by Councillor Anderson,
moved for leave to introduce a By-law of the Town of
Pickering to a~tze the borrowing of $1,500,000.00
to meet, until the taxes are collected, the current
expenditures of the Municipality for the year, and that
same be now read a first, second and third time and
that the same be now finally passed and that the Mayor
and Clerk sign the same and that the Seal of the
Corporation be thereto affixed.
CARRIED
By-law read a first, second and third time and finally
passed.
By-law Number 540/77
Councillor Anderson, seconded by Councillor Fisher,
moved for leave to introduce a By-law of the Town of
Pickering to impose special annual drainage rates upon
land in respect to which money is borrowed under The
Tile Drainage Act, 1971, and that the same be now read
a first, second and third time and that the same be
now finally passed and that the Mayor and Clerk sign
the same and that the Seal of the Corporation be
thereto affixed.
CARRIED
By-law read a first, second and third time and finally
passed.

OTHER BUSINESS
Senior Citizens
Councillor Robertson attended a meeting of senior citizens
at which a resolution was passed requesting Regional
Council to give the senior citizens relief from the sewer
bill. Councillor Robertson gave a Notice of Motion
requesting the Council of the Town of Pickering to pass
a resolution in support of the senior citizens.

(VII) CONFIRMATION BY-LAW
By-law Number 541/77
Councillor Kitchen, seconded by Councillor Fisher,
moved for leave to introduce a By-law of the Town of
Pickering to confirm the proceedings of the Council
of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering at its
meeting held on the 10th day of January, 1977, and
that same be now read a first, second and third time
and that the same be now finally passed and that the
Mayor and Clerk sign the same and that the Seal of
the Corporation be thereto affixed.
CARRIED
By-law read a first, second and third time and finally
passed.
(VIII) ADJOURNMENT
MOVED by Councillor Robertson, seconded by Councillor
Anderson, that the meeting adjourn at 8:50 p.m.
