TOWNSHIP OF PICKERING MUSEUM BOARD 7/70 A meeting of the Pidc ering Town- ship Museum Board was held on TUESDAY, the ELEVENTH day of AUGUST, 1970 at EIGHT o'clock p.m. at the Municipal Building PRESENT: Mr. H. Cook, Chairman Mr. D. McLean Mrs. D. Earle ( Mr. R. Miller 1. MINUTES - LMoved by Mr. McLean, seconded by Mrs. Earle that the minutes of the meeting held on June 9th, 1970 be approved. (No minutes available for meeting held at Museum on July 14th, 197b) . CARRIED. L 2. ACCOUNTS - Moved by Mr. McLean, seconded by Mrs. Earle that the accounts as per Mr. Marshall ' s statement be paid plus two bills for supplies totalling $12. 31 presented by Mr. Miller: CARRIED. 3. CORRESPONDENCE - LThe Metropolitan Conservation Authority had sent sample cataloguing forms. Turned over to Mrs. Earle Lfor use. 4. FEU BUSINESS - L Sales Desk - L Mr. Cook had investigated obtaining a supply of candy as suggested by Conservation personnel. It is too late for orders this year, but a supply can be had in 1971. To be considered further. Discussion was also held on purchasing souvenirs for L sale and some suitable items were chosen from the Irwin Specialties Catalogue. LMoved by Mrs. Earle, seconded by Mr. McLean that Mr. Cook purchase $25. - $30. worth of items in time for History In Action. LCARRIED, Buildings - The state of the buildings was discussed and the possible completion of the plank and boardwall houses, r plus that of the Oddfellows Hall is considered essential. 6• Mr. Miller reported that Mrs. Fallis is ready to start the interior painting on the houses as soon as the Lwindows are installed, which should be within the week. _ _ L ..2.. `"� 7/70 Mr. Hope will be building the front porch on the Odd- --• fellows Hall, also fixing the side door and the floor. The rose window has been repaired and other windows are to be finished. Mr. Miller had received an estimate from Mr. Elicott for the painting of the hall (walls, wainscotting and floor) this amounts to $700. Moved by Mr. Miller, seconded by Mr. McLean that this estimate be accepted and that Mr. Elicott be instructed to proceed with the work. .-0 CARRIED. Mrs. Earle requested the Board's permission to use the hall, if complete, for a special display for History In Action. She thought the spinning group and the quilters could use the hall and to compliment these activities displays of sewing machines, examples of sewing, quilting etc. , plus some of the fashions possessed by the Museum could be set up. The Board agreed that this would be possible and instructed Mrs. Earle to carry out this plan as soon as the hall is ready. History In Action - Moved by Mr. McLean, seconded by Mr. Miller that 300 History In Action posters be ordered from Pickering Litho-Print. CARRIED. Mrs. Earle reported that Mrs. Tyas and the Pickering Senior Citizens would like to serve tea. Since there are usually many requests for tea the Board agreed to this idea and also agreed that the group could bill the Board for supplies used. Mrs. Earle to arrange area for this service. Mr. Cook agreed to see that all the demonstrators are supplied with free refreshments. Other Business - a) Mr. McLean suggested a weekly report on Museum attendance and sales should be sent in. Moved by Mr. Miller, seconded by Mrs. Earle that Mr. McLean work out with Mrs. Hay a daily report sheet. CARRIED. Discussion was held on the number of visits made by day camp groups who have been coming at odd hours. It was decided that further policy on this matter must be drawn up at a future meeting. b) The weeds around the fences are especially bad at the Museum grounds and a general clean-up is needed before History In Action. 0 L c.," .cgmt) ,_„_, ..3- 7/70 ,i. c) Mr. Miller reported that it would cost about L $200. to complete 3 chimneys on the Cole House_ Moved by Mr. McLean, seconded by Mr. Miller that these chimneys be completed. CARRIED, Ld) The next Board meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8th, 1970 at the Museum for r the purpose of seeing that everything is ready for History In Action.
