SUBIECT: 1999 Animal Coniroi Budget
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering hereby approves the 1999 Animal
Control budget estimates as recommended by the Pickering, Ajax and Whitby Joint Animal
Control Committee at its meeting of December 16, t998.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Curtent Year: S 198,226.26 (Pickering's share)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The PAW Commiltee is recommending tho approval of the 1999 Capitai and Operating Budget
for the Mimal Shelter in the amaunt of 5531.200.00 of which Pickering's share is SI98,226.26.
BACKGROUND:
Please be advised that the PAW loint Mimal Control Committee passed the following motion at
its meeting of December 16, 1998;

1 would remind Council that Pickering has entered into an agreement with Ajex and Whitby
respecting the operetion of the Animd Shelter that ellocates operating expenaes on a per capita
besis and capitat expenses on en equd baais. Therefore, for 1999, Pickering is responsible for
' 37.53% of tho totel opereting costa of S504,200 being S 189,22G.26 end is responsible for 33.3%
of the total capital wsts of 527,000 being 59,000 for a totel of S 198,226.26.
1 have provided a chart which showa the operating and capital casts required ta operate the
Animal Shelter and Pickering's share of those expenses. As can be noted from this chart, the
opereting costs have increased to provide for a temporary employee to work during thc summer
months when the steflis on holidays, however, our percentage sharc of ihoso operating costs have
not increased.
