Gillian Cameron, 1933 Maldm Cresctnt, regarding termite control on her property be received; end l. That a grant in the amount of 5500.00, representing 50% of the cost of tertnite control extemtination, be epproved; and That said grant be paid out upon such work being completed; and That this grant be charged to Account 2195 (Grants to Organizations and fndividuals). 2. That a loan in the amount of T1,612.00 be made to Gillian Camaron for repairs to her house as a result of damage done by temtites; and That the amount of this loan, together with an annual interest rate of 6.95%, be added to the Collectar's Roll and coliceted over a period of five years. As noted in Gillian Cameron's lener, By-law 2616/87 states that Cauncil may pay up to 50% of the cost of repeiring a raidentid building ►hat was demaged by temtites or up to 50% af the cost of extertnination costs to a residential building. Ms. Cameron is asking that the'fown pay 50% of the cost ofextertnination fa� which would compute to SS00 or 50°/a of 51,000. By-law 2616/87 also provides loans for repairs or extertnination to a residential building that has termite�. Under Scetion 210.176(b) of the Municipal Act, the amount of such loan, together with interest at a rate to be detemtined by Council, may be added to the Collector's Roll and collected over a period of fiye yeara as part of the tax bill. Ms. Cameron is making eppGcation for a loan in the amount of S1,612.00 to make repairs to her houu a� a result of damage done by the tertnites. If Council approves this loan, the Director of Finance has recommended that the annual interest rate be set at 6,95% which is the rete currently cAarged by banks on five year loans to good retail customero. Council witl recaU that it approved a grant to the Urban Entomology Program at the University of Toronto in 1999 and 2000 in the amounte of S 16,OI6.00 and S 12,496.00 to fund a temute control strategy in Ms. Cameron's neighbourhood, Also, tertnite� were idantified on Ms. Cameron's property by the Ministry of the Environment as far back ae 1988, however, no action was taken eo control this infestation by the owner at that time. Based on the foregoing, ( believe it would be fair to approve both of Ms. Cameron's requests, namely that a grent in the amount of f500 be made to Ms. Cemeron for the cost of treating her property to exterminate termites and to approve a loen in the amount of 51,612 to repair damage to her house as the result of temtita. The cost for the temtite control extemdnation is S 1,000.00 plus the cost to remove the Bont and rear dak and to lift the carpeting in the buement. Pursuant to the above ByLaw I hereby make a formal appiication under Paragr�ph 7-" loan to an owner of e residential biding for purpoxs of being applied to the cost incurred hereafter by such owner in repeiring damege done to such «sidential building by termita or other wood- destroying insects such portion being an amount fixed by the Town not exceeding the actual cust of such work le� any emount paid by the Town in «spect thereof under Section 6". I em enclosing a quotation for repairs to the wall, however this will have to be amended as it applies to one wall oniy, there is a 2nd wall thet is severcly damaged. The full axtent of damage will not be known until the wood siding is removed. There may be interior structure damage as wcll aa plywood and insulation.
