HomeMy WebLinkAboutDecember 2, 1992 MINUTES i $ A meeting of the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee was held on Wednesday, December 2, 1992 at 7:00 p.m. in Meeting Room #1, Pickering Civic Complex. PRESENT: Celia Bronkhorst Enrico Pistritto (Left at 7:30 p.m.) Henry Gawman Kim Thompson Janet Mehak Dave Pickles Anna Willson Konrad Zeh (Arrived at 8:30 p.m.) Janis Waithe Huberty Frank Williamson STAFF: Debbie Kearns, Councillors' Secretary ABSENT: Brian Hern VISITORS FROM WHITEVALE: Julia Hayes Sarah Roberts • 1. Adoption of Minutes Moved by Dave Pickles, seconded by Celia Bronkhorst that the Minutes of the Meeting of November 5, 1992 be adopted. Carried t, • - 2 2. Property at 1931 Fairport Road Celia Bronkhorst reported that she spoke with the lawyer's office concerning the property at 1931 Fairport Road and was assured that this was the correct address. Celia stated that this is a new home and that we have no interest in this property. 3. Rene Soetens. M.P. Celia Bronkhorst reported that in her meeting with Rene Soetens he stated that a corridor study, which will take two to four months, was being undertaken by the Federal Government on the Federal lands. Approximately three months after the study is completed the Government will begin selling the lands, first to the province then the municipality and next to the owners. The previous owners will be encouraged to purchase the properties and will be offered 10% off the market value. He also stated that the Federal Government is not interested in designating the Bentley House. 4. LACAC Brochure Dave Pickles gave a report on the progress of the LACAC Brochure and requested comments from the Committee regarding changes. Celia Bronkhorst provide Dave with a picture of the Hugh Miller home which will be included in the brochure. 5. Official Plan Review The Secretary was requested to distribute copies of all studies carried out in the areas to all Committee members. 6. Whitevale Review Kim Thompson read a revised draft Report to Council which she had prepared. A discussion proceeded and suggestions were made for changes to the draft. A final draft was agreed upon which the Secretary will forward to the Town Clerk. 7. Manressa Henry Lawman reported that he had written an article for the News Advertiser concerning Manressa and that he had taken it to the News Advertiser for print. He was not given a specific date that it would appear in the paper. r - 3 - NEW BUSINESS 1. Anna Willson reported that the Committee had received a letter from Community Heritage Ontario requesting a $25.00 donation to the organization and the Committee agreed to this request. 2. Anna Willson reported that a letter had been received from Mr. Hughes requesting information concerning historic railroad lines within the Town of Pickering. Henry Gawman stated that a gentleman at Manressa has alot of information concerning this subject and will forward the letter to him requesting him to respond to Mr. Hughes. 3. Anna Willson suggested that due to the I.W.A. short list which has recently be released, that signs should be erected in Whitevale with the following wording: Welcome to Whitevale Heritage Conservation District The Committee decided that Anna Willson should contact Tim Sheffield the Town Solicitor to clarify whether or not a By-law. had been passed declaring Whitevale a Heritage Designated Area before signs were erected. 4. Moved by Henry Gawman, seconded by Janis Waithe Huberty to establish a $50 honourarium per year for members who attend 75% of LACAC meetings for the year, to stimulate attendance. Lost After further discussion it was decided that an honourarium was not warranted as the majority of the members attend regularly and volunteer due to interest. 5. Konrad Zeh provided copies of ICOMOS information to assist in the uniform preparation of inventory. 6. A pot luck dinner will be held on December 18th, 1992 at Anna Willson's home.
