MINUTES A meeting of the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee was held on Wednesday, December 1, 1993 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pickering Civic Complex, Committee Room. • PRESENT: Kim Thompson Anna Willson Janet Mehak - Henry Gawman . . • . . • Debbie Kearns Guest: Tom Gooding ABSENT: Dave Pickles Frank Williamson Konrad Zeh Janice Waithe-Huberty Enrico Pistritto • 1 Inventory Kim Thompson outlined the reasons the committee are considering hiring a consultant and she requested that Anna Willson report to the committee the progress she has made to • date in this regard. • • • - 2 - Anna Willson advised that she has spoken with Barbara McPhail of Unterman, McPhail Consultants and questions which need to be answered are as follows: 1) Who will use this inventory. 2) What should it incorporate. 3) Where will it be kept. 4) Levels of complexities. 5) Is is something the committee could do. Anna advised that she spoke with Mary Jarvis from the Planning Department and was advised that the Planning Department would like the inventory kept in the form of a book or on the computer in order that access would be available to anyone needing this type of information. Anna also stated that Unterman, McPhail have carried out this type of work before and it takes a couple of days to complete. 2. Cherry Downs Application Kim Thompson read to the committee a letter which was received from the Planning Department requesting comments pertaining to the application submitted by Cherry Downs for an expansion of their golf course and the development of townhouses. Anna Willson and Kim Thompson will forward their comments concerning this application to the secretary to then be forwarded to the Planning Department in letter form. 3. Post Manor Kim Thompson reported that the solicitor who previously requested that Heritage Pickering approve the request to change the designation of the property surrounding Post Manor, the property in which the Swiss Chalet and Sun Dial Donuts sits on, has requested that the committee reconsider their position. Kim Thompson will acquire more information concerning this matter before the next meeting of Heritage Pickering.. 4. Surplus Airport Lands A letter was received, requesting comments from interested parties, concerning the sale of Surplus Airport Lands. Kim Thompson will acquire more information from a member of the Airport Land Committee before responding. w.• J •, - 3 - 5. Christian House Anna Wilson reported that a meeting was held in Whitevale, by interested parties, to consider converting the Christian House into a Library. 6. McPherson House Kim Thompson advised that she spoke with Everettt Buntsma concerning having a building inspector access the McPherson House regarding the amount of work required to repair it. Everett advised that this was not feasible as there was to much work and the Town could not afford to carry out the work. 7. Heritage Signs Kim Thompson distributed a copy of a sample Heritage Sign. (copy attached) Next Meeting The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 5, 1994 at 7:00 p.m. in Meeting Room#1. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
