MINUTES
A meeting of the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee was held on
Wednesday, July 6, 1994 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pickering Civic Complex, Tower Meeting Room.

1. 1993 Grant Applications
The Secretary advised that those persons wishing to reapply for the remainder of their
• 1993 Grant should do so immediately as the deadline for requests is July 15, 1994.
2. Frenchman's Bay Festival
Frank Williamson described the Heritage Display which he set up at the Frenchman's Bay
Festival at the East Shore Community Centre. He also commended Tom Mohr for the
• • excellent display of approximately 100 photographs of the Frenchman's Bay-area.

3 1994 Budget
A discussion arose concerning the remaining funds available in the LACAC budget and
projects which could be undertaken which would best utilize these funds. The secretary
was directed to again request from the Purchasing Department the quotes concerning the
Heritage Plaques. Anna Willson described the Cable 10 Volunteer program. The
committee agreed to hold a reception fo the Council which-will be elected in November

4. Fund Raising
Frank Williamson advised that the Mount Zion Church pig roasting fund raising event was
a great success despite the bad weather. Due to LACAC being a Committee of Council it
was questioned whether fund raising is a possibility.
Since this meeting, the Secretary has checked with Mr. Bruce Taylor, Town Clerk as to
the possibility of fund raising for LACAC and received an affirmative response.
5. LACAC Brochure
Frank Williamson distributed the new LACAC brochure which also included a map
outlining where each property is located. Frank was commended for his excellent work on
this project.
6. Post Cemetary
A new sign was to be erected at Post Cemetary and LACAC members offered to see if

7. New Business
a) was outlined tlined to the LACAC members that any person wishing to be on this
committee must reapply when the new Council has been elected.
b) The status of the Whitevale Heritage District was questioned. Anna Willson stated
that meetings have been held with Tim Moore of the Public Works Department and
Whitevale citizens and it is not a hopeful situation. She advised that no date as been
set as of yet for the OMB Hearing. Comments from various organizations such as the
ualj -Minsitry-of Culture and Communication and the Consultants are not hopeful due to
the exemptions.

c) Frank Williamson advised that he gave a brief talk concerning heritage to an Elder
Hostel Group at the Claremont Conservation Outdoor Education Centre. He stated
that this group then travelled to Whitevale where he gave an explanation of the various
homes in the area. -
d) Frank Williamson advised that he is a volunteer woodworker at the Pickering Museum
Village on special occasions.
e) Frank Williamson advised that Chuck Hamilton, photographer has shown an interest in
photographing all homes within Pickering which could be of heritage significance. He
stated that Mr. Hamilton and others in his group will do this free if LACAC will buy
the require supplies and pay for the processing. (2 P
f) Frank Williamson advised that Mr. J. Branic - 905-683-8015, is the new Chair for
Ajax LACAC.
g) The new real estate sign which has been erected at Post Manor was discussed and the
Secretary was directed to write to this real estate office requesting that this s sign by
removed and a more aesthetically pleasing sign be posted. P - Vy_-` 0ya
h) Dave Pickles outlined the process which must be taken to acquire a student next
summer to assist LACAC. He suggested that a job description be prepared and that,

i) Dave Pickles advised that he will bring forward at the September 1995 meeting a
mandate for LACAC which was prepared and distributed to the LACAC members for
comment at a previous meeting.
Adjournment
The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.

The best price obtained for the fabrication of Heritage Plaques as per your
request was received from Nelson Bronze Limited (copy of quote attached).
This is the company that produces plaques for Whitby and was recommended
by them to us.
The cost will be$203.00 per plaque with an additional "one time charge" of
$200.00 for our pattern. Delivery, and taxes will be extra.
If you would like to proceed, please provide an authorized purchase requisition.
