PRESENT: Henry Lawman • Louise Wiersma • Kimberly Thompson Dennis Mann • Frank Williamson Dave Pickles • STAFF: Debbie Kearns, Secretary LACAC ABSENT: Enrico Pistritto • Andrew Cobean • I. Post Cemetery The Secretary will continue to try and reach the Ministry of Culture and Communications concerning the upkeep of the stones in Post Cemetery. 2. Inventory Dennis Mann will update the inventory forms for inventory. 3. Committee Structure The following projects were divided between committee members: . 1) Tours-.Dave Pickles offered.to coordinate tours (walking, car, bicycle) of Pickering. He suggested preparing brochures outlining sites, interest points, hamlet tours, Frenchman's Bay tour and the history of prominent families. • 2) Inventory-Frank Williamson will update the statistics on approximately 50 homes. • 3) History of Properties-- Henry Gawman will continue to investigate and write articles • on the history of homes within Pickering. • -2 - 4) Criteria for Property Designation - Kim Thompson will prepare an outline on information concerning tracing the history of a home and the criteria for property designation. 5) Claremont - Kim Thompson will prepare a list of the properties within Claremont which could be of heritage significance. 6) Brougham - Dennis Mann will prepare a list of the properties within Brougham which could be of heritage significance. 7) Ad-Hoc Committee-Dennis Mann offered to be part of a ad-hoc committee. 8) Committee Structure-Dave Pickles will attempt to rework the committee structure. The villages which require inventory to be listed are as follows: Claremont, Brougham, Altona, Green River, Cherrywood,Kinsale and Balsam. 4. Pickering Story Kim Thompson purchased two copies of the Pickering Story for the committee both of which have been borrowed by Dennis Mann and Dave Pickles. 5. Whitevale Brochure The Secretary was requested to contact Anna Willson about receiving twelve copies of the Whitevale Brochure. 6. 1995 Grants Kim ThompYon advised that she will be contacting the Millers concerning applying for a 1995 Heritage Grant. 7. Monica Cook Estate The Secretary advised of the status of the investigation by the Architectural Conservancy with regards to the home on the Monica Cook Estate possibly being a `Tunker House'. When the report has been received, the Secretary will contact the Chair. 8. Brock Road & 5th Concession Frank Williamson advised that he attended the two meetings concerning the proposed construction at Brock Road and the 5th Concession. He outlined the work to be carried out and filed the minutes with the Secretary. He advised that the Hubbard house will not be affected. 9. Other Business 1. A tour of the Pickering Hamlets will take place on Thursday, May 11th or 18th at 6 p.m. • -3 - 2. The Secretary was asked to request a copy of the `Manual For Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee (LACAC) Members from the Ministry of Culture and Communications. 3. Dave Pickles advised that he has made a number of calls, and will continue to do so, concerning acquiring a summer student to assist the committee. 10.Next Meeting The next meeting is scheduled for June 6, 1995 at 7 p.m. 11.Adjournment • The meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
