MINUTES A meeting of the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee was held on Wednesday, December 6, 1995 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pickering Civic Complex, Tower Room. McPherson House Catherine Tredway gave a brief overview of the decision made at the Council Meeting on December 4, 1995. 2. Monica Cook Estate Kim Thompson will contact Mr. Murray Evans, Urban Land Management in January.1996 to discuss the next step to be taken concerning the Monica Cook House. • • • • • 4- -2-_2_ 3. Minutes of Previous Meeting Moved by Henry Gawman Seconded by Andy Cobean That the minutes of the November 1, 1995 meeting be approved. CARRIED 4. Other Business a) Kim Thompson explained the proposal submitted by Catherine Tredway for the use of the remaining 1995 Budget and the proposed 1996 Budget. Catherine Tredway outlined to the Committee the contents included in the new Committee information binders. She also advised that she is working on a new Heritage Pickering brochure and has begun work on the Woodruff's Tavern Report. b) Kim Thompson advised of a car rally and scavenger hunt organized by the Pickering Museum Village which will take place in June 30th, 1996. c) The Secretary will forward copies of information received from the Cities of Ottawa and Niagara Falls as well as the Heritage Matters publication. 5. Whitby L.A.C.A.C. invites you to participate in the festivities of the day and to enjoy the rich heritage of Whitby. Heritage Day events will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are situated throughout Downtown Whitby, specifically at Dundas and Byron Streets where a special street closure has been obtained. Festivities include various musical performances, children's activities, antiques, information display's, a historic walking tour and much, much more! The Whitby Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee has organized a number of interesting and exciting events for this years celebration. Earl Pascoe will once again be displaying his collection of clocks at the Bank of Montreal. Pascoe has a few surprises for this years display, so don't miss him! The Whitby Brass Band, the County Town Singers and the Whitby Courthouse Theatre are just a few of the entertainers who will be performing at Heritage Day '94. The theme for this years Heritage Day is "A Saturday Stroll on Byron Street". Many of the Day's festivities will be held on Byron Street North between Elm and Mary Streets from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Special ceremonies will be taking place on Byron Street at approximately noon on September 10. These will include the cutting of a cake celebrating Whitby's "Bonniest Baby in the British Empire", as well as the unveiling of a special painting of the old Whitby Post Office. The Town Crier, Fred Martin, will also be present for Heritage Day, announcing all of the exciting events taking place during the day. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the "British Empire's Bonniest Baby" contest of 1924. Whitby is paying tribute to Teddy Rowe, the baby who won the Empire-wide contest with over 60,000 entrants and made Whitby famous throughout the British Empire. The baby's sister, Margaret Scott will be present at the ceremonies on Heritage Day. Other activities taking place on Heritage Day include: - Children's games from Pioneer/Victorian times - Magical Busker Max T.
