Education and Special Events Human Resources  Full time – Dave Marlowe  Educational Staff - 2 new - 12 term and permanent part-time  Summer Staff - 5 plus 1 back-up  Volunteers - 135 Education Program  new programs were introduced and positive comments were made, an attempt will be made to integrate these programs into next years line-up  attendance was down as afternoons don’t work for most schools due to short afternoons  school curriculum for Grade 3 includes native studies and the museum will include a native studies program in the education line-up  revamping 1837 program and spring program  a review of the school curriculum will be undertaken to implement into the education programs  consideration is being given to increasing winter events to be held in Redman House Page 2 Item / Ref # Details & Discussion & Conclusion (summary of discussion) Action Items / Status (include deadline as appropriate) Special Events 2005  Spirit Walk - September  Fall Family Festival - October  Christmas in the Village - December 2006  Settler Trail - March 15  Dessert Theatre - March 31, April 1,2,8,9  Steam-Up & Opening - May 28  Tapestry - June 11  Whodunit - July 8,9,15,16  Settlers at Sunset - August 12, 13  A Spirit Walk - September 22, 23 with a possibility of adding more dates  Fall Family Festival - October 1  Christmas in the Village - December 3, 10 Volunteer Training Steam Barn staff meeting on Monday, July 18 at 3:30 pm  September 10 - Opening of the Redman House  September 17 - Orientation of the Redman House Program Centre  September 28 - Wayne Fisher to make a presentation to the Steam Barn staff with an invitation to his site in Cambridge for a barbeque on October 15  November 19 - Christmas In The Village Training  Workshops - dance group to offer workshops - rhyme time – 10-11 am - costume making Marketing Strategy  good coverage from News Advertiser  due to changes in staffing, a lot of the work had to be out sourced Page 3 Item / Ref # Details & Discussion & Conclusion (summary of discussion) Action Items / Status (include deadline as appropriate) Signage  signs at Brock Road and Hwy. 7 need to be moved and permission needs to be granted by the Ministry of Transportation  new signs need to be erected at Lakeridge Road (Hwy. 23) and Hwy. 7 along with Taunton Road and Brock Road 2. Hotel Restoration Project  July 22nd is the proposed completion date of the Redman House renovation Hotel Usage A discussion occurred concerning the possible uses of the hotel once renovated.  educational – construction features  Temperance Hotel – serving tea, non-alcoholic beverages and providing entertainment  educational facility  artifact display  make use consistent with rest of village  restore rooms consistent with Temperance Hotel – owners room, common room, etc.  hire historical consultant to ensure accuracy in restoration Funding  Foundation funds are diminishing, still hoping for a partner, possibly the Pickering Historical Society  partner must have an interest and common use in the facility  will apply for a Trillium Grant once partnering in place  the City of Pickering budgeted $250,000 to match the Foundation funding  a further amount will be included in the 2006 budget, to be matched by the Foundation, to hire a historical consultant 3.
