Ontarians With Disability Act- Accessibility Advisory Committee Councillor Ryan advised that legislation was passed requiring every municipality to form an Accessibility Advisory Committee. Letters were distributed to agencies throughout Durham advising of the formation of this Committee and requesting interested individuals to submit an- application. No interest was shown through this process but since, two individuals have advised that they would participate in this Committee. Councillor Ryan advised that a meeting has been set for April 9th at 7 PM and he invited Race Relations & Equity Committee Members to attend. Councillor Ryan further advised that the Race Relations & Equity Committee would be divided in 2004 to form two committees, one will be the Race Relations Committee and the second will be the Accessibility Advisory Committee. 2. 2003- Heritage Week Marisa distributed copies of the Heritage Week 2003 Program and asked for suggestions on how to improve this event. She stated that if a small honorarium or some type of incentive was offered this may encourage more organizations to become involved. Councillor Ryan suggested approaching service clubs in October to request their assistance with honorariums. Further discussion concerning this matter will take place in September. Ref # (summary of discussion) - (include deadline as appropriate) Bill Boyes will prepare a letter to service clubs advising them of this need for the 2004 event. Marisa thanked Committee Members for their participation and Councillor Ryan thanked staff for their continued hard work and support. 3. We All Are Immigrants Event Councillor Ryan advised that this event was initiated by the museum but that a letter was sent to various organizations under the signature of himself and the Chair of the Pickering Village Museum Advisory Committee requesting their participation. This event will take place on June 15th in the Museum Village from 12 pm to 4:30 pm. A number of events have been planned and four responses have been received from those interested in participating. 4. Other Business • Councillor Ryan advised of an event in recognition of a Day To Eliminate Racism taking place at the Pickering Town Centre on Saturday, March 29th from 11 am to 3 pm. • Bill informed the Committee of a novel entitled `Studies of Society' in which it outlines the reasons why individuals participate in committees and then choose not to. 5.
