Welcome & Introductions Kim welcomed members and guests to the meeting. 2. Minutes Minutes of the January 12, 2006 meeting were approved. Joe reported that a full report on the diversity study of the Durham Regional Police Service should be ready in approximately one month. 3. 2006 Committee Events Heritage Week -several performances scheduled for event -total of twelve booths March Writing Contest -330 entries were received -winners have been selected from all categories and will be Page 2 CORP0228—2/02 Item /Ref # Details & Discussion & Conclusion (summary of discussion) Action Items /Status (include deadline as appropriate) showcased at the March 22, 2006 Race Relations Forum event. The winning entries will be displayed in the Civic Complex for the month of March and the first place winners will be published in the Ajax Pickering News Advertiser. 4. Durham West Arts Centre Key highlights of presentation made by Gray Faulkner are as follows: • Huge need for a Performing Arts Centre in Durham • Study done to determine economic impact to community • Very impressed with talent in Pickering and Ajax • Affiliated with Pine Ridge Arts Council (distributed copies of “ArtScene” to members) 5. Tapestry Event Update • Looking for sponsorship 6. Survey – Ideas from Committee • Councillor Pickles had discussion with committee members with regards to doing a survey • Requested members to give some thought into possible survey questions and bring ideas/suggestions to the April 30th scheduled meeting 7. Other Business • Kim reminded members that she needs to respond to student’s questions, and referred to the earlier email message that she sent out asking for input • Kim inquired as to if members had any names to put forward for Civic Award nominations. Forms due February 16th March 8th – Believing the Hype: 7 Keys to Motivating Students of Colour" (see attachment for more details) Nazneen & Margaret to send email with comments to Kim 8.
