Day. 2.0 Delegation Nicole Doyle, Justice & Eme Durham College appeared before the Committee and provided an overview of the Youth Correction & Intervention Graduate Program. She provided
information with respect to field placement and noted they are in the process of community survey underway. They have two groups interested in working with the Diversity Committee on

Page 2 CORP0228—2/02 Discussion took place with respect to the mandate of the Committee. J. Morris read the mandate and offered to make copies for the students. K. Mark noted that everyone
was in agreement that the needs must be looked at first, but we would need to know the makeup of the community. The City of Pickering’s goal is to create a vibrant, active City and to
ensure everybody has the opportunity to participate in an equitable way in the Canadian Mosaic. It is a means to move the City forward to meet the needs of the community through engagement.
Discussion ensued with respect to identifying the interests of the community as well as social services required so that the City of Pickering can respond to these needs. Sweetha Rajadnithan,
Durham College, reviewed the questions posed by committee members as follows; • rate of diversity • how do you feel about diversity – what is positive and how can we improve Nicole suggested
the survey may need to be more than four questions to ascertain the data required. She also discussed various methodologies to ensure a mixture of methods in order to gather information.
The students will research the methods and make a proposal in order to advise which methods would be most effective. K. Mark questioned what the effects of the growth in Pickering has
had on Diversity, suggesting one central question should shape the research. Further discussion ensued with respect to the wording for the survey. Nicole stated that the committee is
looking at an intense demographics of the community and also stated the need to determine which groups do not respond to surveys. The following outline was discussed; • students will
present a proposal outlining the method of
Page 3 CORP0228—2/02 research and the questions to gather the information the committee requires • Nicole will be on board once the proposal is complete in December • propose how the
committee can move forward • suggest funding sources 3.0 New Business Mentoring opportunities were discussed for [YOU]nity and secondary and college students. Nicole stated she would
