Welcome ZH Zoia Horne, Chair of the Accessibility Advisory Committee welcomed members to the meeting and introduced Councillor O'Connell. 2. Harbour Entrance - Frenchman's Bay Councillor O'Connell Councillor O'Connell appeared before the Committee to discuss the Waterfront Committee's concerns with the Frenchman's Bay Harbour Entrance Environmental Assessment. Currently, the plan includes a fully accessible pier on the east side of the bridge; however, there is no proposal to build an accessible walkway on the west side of the pier. The Waterfront Committee is extremely concerned about the lack of accessibility and their comments to the TRCA will include their recommendations for an accessible pier. Z. Horne suggested that the Committee send a letter to the City of Pickering staff to also highlight their concerns. The L. Harker to action Accessibility Advisory Committee's comments will reflect that the do not support a pier that is not accessible. Page 1 CORP0228-2/02 Councillor Littley suggested that the TRCA be invited to discuss P. Noronha-Waldriff to project details with the Committee at the June meeting. action 3. Adoption of Minutes - April 22, 2009 All Other Business - Councillor Littley suggested that the Committee participate in the City's Sustainable Pickering Day in 2010. Moved by Councillor Littley Seconded by Patricia Dawn Korol That the Minutes of the April 22, 2009 meeting be adopted. CARRIED 4. Blind Guy Biking Tour All S. Milton, Supervisor, Facility Programs and M. Sawyer appeared before the Committee as representatives of the Durham Progress Club. S. Milton and M. Sawyer gave an overview of the event "Blind Guy Biking". Richard Holloway of Brampton Ontario is a legally blind cyclist, who is riding from Victoria, B.C., to St. Johns, Newfoundland to raise money for athletes with disabilities. Richard will be stopping at either Progress Park or City Hall on August 2, 2009 and S. Milton encouraged the Committee to support Richard by appearing at this event. Committee members S. Milton requests that the Committee follow up with regards to to action the preferred location to meet Richard. 5. Site Plan Review All S05/83 (R09) - Pickering Town Centre Office Building The Committee would like to request; • 8 accessible parking spots - 4 for the bridge access and 4 for the pathway, including the addition of a curb cut; • to ensure that there is adequate lighting for parking, bridge and pathways; • clearly marked accessible parking spots; • clearly marked levels of counters in washrooms; • that the elevator at the end of the bridge is accessible and that there is a nearby accessible parking spot; and • that at every entrance the accessible parking spots are evenly distributed. Page 2 CORP0228-2/02 S20/88 (R09) - Purdue Pharma The Committee would like to request; • that there is clear marking of accessible parking spots; • that 4 more accessible parking spots are added to the existing parking lot (2 - visitors lot, 2 - employee parking); • that there is more detail regarding the washrooms; and • that there is more detail to determine the sidewalk grading of the entrance. Due to insufficient detail of the site plan, the Committee would T. Barnett to action like to request a new site plan with more detail to review. S06/00 (R09) - Lowe's Home Improvement Store The Committee would like to request', • that the number of accessible parking spots be marked clearly. 6. Events All Torch Run • P. Noronha-Waldriff gave an overview of the Torch Run taking place on June 17, 2009. At the event, Z. Horne, Chair, Accessibility Advisory Committee will be providing an overview of the Committee and launching the Committee's brochure. • Z. Horne to send speech to P. Noronha-Waldriff and L. Z. Horne to action Harker for review. Sailing Lessons • P. Noronha-Waldriff provided a status update of the sailing lessons. The school permission forms have been returned, and there are a total of 5 kids participating. P. P. Noronha-Waldriff to Noronha-Waldriff will be filling the remaining 3 spots. action 7. Accessible Business Brochure All P. Noronha-Waldriff gave an overview of the Accessible Business Brochure and suggested that the brochure should closely resemble the Committees brochure. Committee members are to come prepared to discuss the brochure at the June meeting. 8. Other Business & Adjournment All Z. Horne provided an update of the Regional Accessibility meetings. Horne would like to ensure that a note about not distracting service dogs is included in the Committee's Accessible Business Brochure • DREN Gala Adjournment Moved by Keith Falconer Seconded by Zoia Horne That the meeting be adjourned.
