S. Little welcomed everyone and new members were
introduced.
2. Election of Chair and Vice-Chair All
S. Little provided a brief overview of the nomination process for
Chair and Vice-Chair.

That Zoia Horne be elected as Chair of the Accessibility
Advisory Committee.

Z. Horne and S. Little both accepted their positions as Chair
and Vice-Chair.
3. Jody Morris, Coordinator, Marketing & Revenue' JM &'PNW'
J. Morris, Coordinator, Marketing & Revenue appeared
before the Committee to discuss various marketing strategies
for the Committee.
"The Torch Run"
• A Special Olympics event on June 17th. The
Accessibility Advisory Committee can launch their
brochure during this event. J. Morris suggested having
the Chair of the Committee speak following Mayor
Ryan.
• This event will provide excellent media opportunities
(Rogers, News Advertiser) and marketing for the
brochure launch.
• J. Morris will provide marketing opportunities for the
Committee in preparation for this event, including Jody to action
mention in the Community Page Ad, and the purchase
and the creation of the "Banner Bug", which is
anticipated to cost approximately $395.
• Following the launch of the brochure, additional copies
of brochures will be kept at City facilities, available for
download via the City's website and possibly
distributed by Durham Transit.
Sailing Lessons
• P. Noronha-Waldriff provided an update on the sailing
lessons. They met with Brenda, a special education
teacher from Pine Ridge High School to discuss the
contest. Brenda suggested rather than having a
contest to have teachers recommend students and
work with parents to obtain confirmation of the
student's ability and to ensure that a support person is
available for the student during sailing lessons. Brenda
also suggested instead of the contest to have selected
students chosen by draw.
• P. Noronha-Waldriff to draft a letter to review with
school boards and report back to the Committee at the
Prem to action
May meeting.
• J. Morris to support this event with marketing and
promotional pieces. Jody to action
• J. Morris gave an overview of City events that she
suggests the Committee attend as marketing
opportunities, including the Committee's presence at

Ribfest.
4. Adoption of Minutes- March 25, 2009 All

Seconded by Terry Arvisais
That the Minutes of the March 25, 2009 meeting be adopted.

5. Other Business & Adjournment All
• S. Little suggested that the Accessible Business
Brochure be discussed at the May meeting. Members to
bring their comments and suggestions. P. Noronha-
Waldriff to complete the brochure to alert local Prem to action
businesses of upcoming AODA standards.
• Regional Forum - T. Arvisais and Z. Horne to attend.
Reminder to all Committee members that the
registration deadline is on May 21St
• Z. Horne discussed the possibility of having Committee
members visit an accessible home.
• K. Joy Moyer to contact developers to speak to the
Committee about the services they offer. Kathi to action
• The Committee discussed commencing an annual City
of Pickering Accessibility Forum, possibly in May/June.
The Forum's goal would be to promote the Accessibility
Advisory Committee and invite accessible organizations
to attend to promote their services or products.
