1. Welcome and Call To Order
Pam called the meeting to order and welcomed members to the
meeting.

3. Other Business
4.1 Municipal HeritaQe Committees - CHO Workshop
Pam and Shawna were in attendance at the one-day
CHO workshop held in Port Perry on Saturday, April 3,
2004. Pam distributed notes from the workshop along
with copies of various presentations and Shawna
provided highlights of the day. (Copies of notes, agenda
and presentations are attached for members not in
attendance) .
4.2 Federal/Airport Lands - Presentation to Council John to prepare text
John advised that he anticipates making a presentation to Pam to prepare power
Council by the end of May. He has all the necessary point presentation and
- pictures for the power point presentation but still requires arrange to present to
text. He suggested that historical and museum contacts Council

4.3 Brock Road Expansion - Letter from Heritaae Pickerina
John advised that he did not forward a letter to the
Provincial Government concerning the expansion of Brock
Road but will contact Heather Thompson of the Ministry of
Culture concerning this issue if required.
Areas of concern that could be affected by the expansion
include: a) the Herb Garden located at the
Woodruff/McKenzie House located on Brock Road north
of Taunton Road; b) Woodruff Cemetery; and c) Matthews
Cemetery .
Brenda suggested contacting Mr. D'Mello, Ministry of Pam will forward
Consumer and Business Affairs concerning this correspondence to Mr.
expansion and advising of the cemeteries in question. D'Mello
4.4 Stakeholder Relationships
Pam commented on the Stakeholder Plan and goals,
stressing the need for building relationships to share
information and to participate in activities related to
- heritage issues. She, and in some cases, Shawna have
met with a number of Councillors, the Mayor and other
stakeholders on behalf of the committee.
She distributed a Stakeholder Plan that outlined Contacts,
Organization and the Status and advised of the benefit of
introducing the committee to individuals and
organizations.
Charles invited the committee to participate in an event Charles to select a
taking place at the Pickering Museum Village on June 13 site for information
entitled "Canadian Tapestry - Weaving the World from Heritage
Together". He advised that an on site meeting will be Pickering to be
taking place on May 1 ih concerning this event. Some displayed
suggestions included displaying information on the Brenda offered to
cemetery project, developing a quiz of Pickering history. attend the event
4.5 Provincial Reauest to Citv - Window Replacements
Shawna provided the committee with an overview of a
request received from Del Property Management who
oversees the Provincial lands. This request was
submitted to the City of Pickering, Panning &
Development Department for permits to replace windows
- in 4 homes within Pickering boundaries. It was suggested
I that, if a response is forwarded, the committee should
state their strong opinion that if these homes are historic
then plastic windows would not be appropriate.

Mary requested information with respect to the difference
between the Provincial and Federal Governments permit
requirements.
Debbie advised that she would be in contact with the
Chief Building Official for his opinion on Mary's enquiry
and attach for members information. (Please find
attached Tim Moore, Chief Building Official's response).
4.6 Inventorv Proiect
John advised that he anticipates beginning the fairly John and Gordon to
comprehensive inventory project with Gordon next week. begin inventory project

Libraries PADA system.
John will speak with Neil Carrolll, Director, Planning & John to speak with

inventory available to the City via the Planning
- Department for official plan and building purposes, as well

4.7 Desionations
A designation project team of Charles, Shawna, Mary and Pam to forward outline

4.8 Cemetery Reoistration Proiect
Brenda provided updated copies of the cemetery Brenda to update the
registration report along with a map identifying the listing with revisions

Clarification was sought regarding any projects
completed by committee members and it was confirmed
that any work completed under the auspices of Heritage
Pickering belongs to the committee and through it, the Debbie to collect
City of Pickering. Copies of the cemetery inventory, as minutes, meeting
well as any other committee documents, e.g. minutes, notes, etc. and provide
meeting notes, heritage inventory, brochures, etc. will be them to Karen for the
housed in the Library's history room. Library.
4. Next Meeting
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 18th at 7:00 pm
in the Tower Room.
