ANNOUNCEMENTS

Councillor Dickerson announced that Jesse Docherty has been appointed by the
Province to be its representative in the riding of Durham West during International
Year of Seniors. Ms Docherty thanked Council for recognizing her appointment
and noted that she has been involved with Seniors issues for the past 25 years as an
employee of Metro Toronto and as a volunteer.

dedicate Blocks 31, Plan 40M-1892 (Sandhurst Crescent) as public highway, be
forwarded to Council for enactment.

Cameron, 1933 Malden Crescent, regarding termite control on her property be
approved.

(IV) OTHER BUSINESS
1.
Mayor Arthurs reported that Councillor Brenner and himself conducted a tour of
the recreation facilities with the Council of Lewiston, New York, and noted that
they were very impressed with the operation of the Recreation Complex and
thanked staff for keeping this facility in good condition.

Councillor Ryan congratulated the Ajax Race Relations Committee for their event
that was held on Saturday, April 10th.

Councillor Ryan asked that a drop box be set up in the lobby of the Civic Complex
to accept clothing and other materials to aid the refugees ITom Kosovo.

Councillor Ryan stated that Council passed a resolution to honour Seniors and
youth during the Millennium activities. He is concerned that the funds that have
been raised by the Millennium Committee trom private donors is being used for
activities such as flags, pins, fireworks, etc. and that public funds trom grants trom
the senior levels of government may be used for Seniors and youth.
5.
Mayor Arthurs stated that he heads up the Steering Committee to investigate
projects that pay attention to Seniors and youth. Council recognized many months
ago that it would celebrate the Millennium and at the same recognize Seniors and
youth. A balance of activities will be achieved using both private and public funds.

6. Councillor Dickerson reviewed comments he has received on Millennium events
held to date and noted that those comments were positive.
7. Councillor Brenner noted that the delegation from Lewiston, New York, expressed
an interest in partnering with the Town of Pickering.
8. Councillor Brenner further noted that he was contacted by a local school to assist
with advertising and other programs to help the refugees in Kosovo.

TOWN OF PICKERING
That the Executive Committee of the Town of Pickering having met on April 12, 1999, presents
its sixth report to Council and recommends:

1.
APPLICATION FOR GRANT AND LOAN
FOR TERMITE CONTROL
GILLIAN CAMERON, 1933 MALDEN CRESCENT
FILE NUMBER - C 2440
That the letter ITom Ms. Gillian Cameron, 1933 Malden Crescent, regarding
termite control on her property be received; and
1. That a grant in the amount of $500.00, representing 50% of the cost of
termite control extermination, be approved; and
That said grant be paid out upon such work being completed; and
That this grant be charged to Account 2195 (Grants to Organizations and
Individuals) .
2. That a loan in the amount of $1,612.00 be made to Gillian Cameron for
repairs to her house as a result of damage done by termites; and
That the amount of this loan, together with an annual interest rate of
6.95%, be added to the Collector's Roll and collected over a period of five
years.
