ADOPTION OF MINUTES MOVED by Councillor Kitchen, Seconded by Councillor J. L. McPherson THAT the minutes 3/70 of a meeting held on Thursday, April 16th., 1970 be adopted as presented. CARRIED 2. PRESENTATION BY MR. M. COLLINS RE: PARK NEEDS IN WEST ROUGE Motion 15/70 MOVED by Councillor Kitchen, Seconded by Councillor Kruger THAT we hear Mr. M. Collins' presentation on park needs. CARRIED The Director was directed to study the availability of land in West Rouge (re: Mr. Collins presentation) and Bay Ridges (re: the inadequacy of park land in Bay Ridges). Mr. Collins outlined the need for park land, suitable for active sports, in West Rouge (see item 3) 3. DISCUSSION - MR. BLACK'S LETTER RE: BALSDON 'PARK The chairman read Mr. Black's letter to the Committee after which it was decided that there was not adequate park land in Bay Ridges. 4. PRESENTATION BY MR. PAUL HARITON RE: WEST SHORE GLEN AREA Mr. Hariton discussed the delay inspraying of mosquitos in West Shore and urged some action. He also voiced his opinion in regard$ to the new land which was to be a conserŸation park. Because of the great numbers of people that would be attracted to this area the residents of West Shore would suffer from a lack of privacy unless the Township provide a buffer zone along the greenbelt area. Both points mentioned above were discussed by the Committee. It was decided that no spraying could be done until the people in the affected area were contacted. Nothing would be done with regards to the greenbelt, until a plan was received from the Conservation Authority. The Citizens of West Shore would be invited to provide their comments at that time. 2 5. REPORT ON CERTAIN INVOICES APPROVED BY THE DIRECTOR Recommended Additions to Budget -------------- - 434-13 434-51 435-63 435-63 435-01 436-01 436-01 Conventions and Education (Arena Manager) Special Events(opening of the Don Beer Sport Arena) 2 Climbers (West Rouge Farkette and Centennial F'ark) Slide for Centennial Park Summer Maintenance (transfer $1,000.00 from overtime to summer maintenance) Red Cross Swimming Instructors (Increase wages to $2.00 per hour and increase season to 10 weeks) 3 F1ayground Leaders (Bring the number of leaders assigned to Bay Ridges,West Shore, and West Rouge to where they were in 1969) Motion 16/70 $ 150.00 $ 500.00 $ 440.00 $ 180.00 $ 2,400.00 $ 1,200.00 $ 4,870.00 MOVED by Councillor Chatten, Seconded by Councillor Kruger THAT funds be transferred from the Capital Projects and contingency account in the amount of $4,870.00 as itemized above. CARRIED Note: The subject of Minor Hockey Expenditures will be discussed at the next meeting. The Director is to secure audited reports from West Rouge and Pickering Minor Hockey Association for that meeting. 6. AREA RECREATION ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTION Motion 17/70 MOVED by Councillor Kruger, Seconded by Councillor J. L. McPherson THAT the Area Recreation Association Constitution be recommended to Council for adoption. CARRIED 7. DON BEER SPORT ARENA - TIME CLOCK (P.M.A. REALTORS) Motion 18/70 MOVED by Councillor Rudik, Seconded by Councillor Kitchen THAT the municipality acquire a Jupiter time-clock and sell advertising ~ights. Authorize a transfer from Capital projects and contingency fund in the amount of $2,400.00 Motion 19/70 MOTION LOST MOVED by Councillor Kruger, Seconded by Councillor J. L. McPherson THAT a oounter offer be made to P.M.A. as follows. That P.M.A. donate and install a Jupiter model time-clock. That P.M.A have exvlusive advertising rights for a period not to exceed five years. The Township of Pickering will assume all maint- enance responsibilities. CARRIED 3 8. REPORT ON SUMMER PROGRAM -......--.....---- The increase in the cost of leasing A.D.Y. pool for summer swim program was discussed along with pleasure swimming and the operation of the snack bar. Mo'tion 20/70 MOVED by Councillor Kruger, Seconded by Councillor Kitchen THAT the new report on the leasing of A,D.Y. pool be accepted and that an attempt be made to lease the snack bar. Motion 11/70 is to be recinded. CARRIED 9, ITEMS LEFT TO THE FOLLOWING MEETING (I) Report on Brief presented by Leo Club RE: their use of the Community Centre at the Don Beer Sport Arena. (2) Report on Community School Co-Ordinator. Next Meeting Thursday, May 28th., 1970. 10. ADJOURNMENT MOVED by Councillor Rudik, Seconded by Councillor J. L.
