Matheson THAT t~" ~ minutes 2/72 of a meeting held on Tuesday, Februa':·y 15th., 1972 be adopted as presented. CARRIED. 2. CLAREMONT L II,WN BOWLING LEAGU E . v- ....... . .-.. The Director of Parks and Recreation informed the Committee that the Claremont Lawn Bowling Club wished Councilts approval to have the taxes on their facility paid by Council. The Director also indicated that he had spoken with the Secretary of the Club and had indicated that the Township could not pay for taxes on buildings not owned by the Township and any assistance in this form can only occur if the Club is prep~red to transfer the deed to the Township. It was mentioned to the Club, that if ownership remained with the Club, the Township could assist with the payment of heat", hydro, and water. Council can only assist in this way if the Club's membership is open to all Township residents. Mo!!.ion 8/72 MOVED by Councillor Mrs.J.L.McPherson, Seconded by Deputy Reeve G. Ashe THAT the Committee recommend to Council that the charges for heat, hydro, and water be paid for the Claremont Lawn Bowling Club by Pickering Township. CARRIED. 3. ª,-UMMER FIGURE SKATING SCHOOL The Director of Parks and Recreation informed the Committee that the Professional Figure 'Z~ .r:,+e\l'~ requested the approval of the Conmli:ttee to operate a summer figure skating school at the Don Beer Sports Arena. ...2- to'iotion 9/72 MOVED by Deputy Reeve G. Ashe, Seconded by Councillor Mrs.J.L,McPherson THAT the Committee recommend to Council that the Figure Skating Professionals under the direction of Mrs. Annette Gardiner be authorized to operate the Summer Figure Skating School at the Don Beer Sports Arena at the following dates, times and rates. Sprin£ School: Fall School: June 19th. to July 14th., 1972 Monday, Thursday and Wednesday 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. $22.00 per hour September 4th. to September 29th. 1972 Monday, Thursday and Wednesday 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. $25.00 per hour CARRIED. 4. RATE~ FOR DUNBAßTON INDOOR POOL The Director of Parks and Recreation presented the Committee with his recommendations for rates at the Dunbarton Indoor Pool. The pleasure swimming rates are the same rates used for admission to the pleasure skating program at the Don Beer Sports Arena. Motion 10/72 MOVED by Councillor D. Kitchen, Seconded by Deputy Reeve G. Ashe THAT the Committee recommend to Council that the following rates for the Dunbarton Indoor Pool be accepted. ~tals: $15.00 per hour including one lifeguard $ 4.00 per hour for each additional lifeguard (rat10·of guards to swimmers - 1:35) ~dmission : Children Adults Family 25c : 50c : $1.00 Saunas: 50c : per person CARRIED. 5. MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE ~otion 1.1/22 MOVED by Councillor D. Kitchen, Seconded by Deputy Reeve G. Ashe THAT the Committee recommend to Council that Cimeo Refrigeration be hired on a hourly basis to cover maintenance work at the Don Beer Sports Arena. CARRIED. -4- 9. -ªAST WOODLAND§ AREA RECREA~ION AS§OCIATION FLEA t-lAR}<ETS Motion 14/72 MOVED by Councillor Kitchen, Seconded by Councillor K. Matheson THAT the Committee recommend to Council that the East Woodlands Area Recreation Association be authorized to hold Flea Markets on Sundays, but that such events be held indoors only. CARRIED. 10. f~RCªASE OF CERTAIN CAPITAL ITEMS The Director of Parks and Recreation required approval from the Committee for the purchase of the following equipment a) 1 only Dehumidifier b) 1 400 P.S.I. Weed Sprayer c) 3 sets of baseball backstops d) 2 sets of soccer posts t-Iotion l5/12 MOVED by Councillor D. Kitchen, Seconded by COuncillor K. Matheson THAT the Director of Parks and Recreation hire a Consulting Engineer for the purpose of determining what type of Dehumidifier would be suitable for use in the Don Beer Sports Arena. CARRIED. Matheson THAT the Director of Parks and Recreation be authorized to purchase 3 sets of Baseb:ll1 Backs"ops and 2 sets of Soccer posts for Moores Road and \vm. G. Davis School Athletic Field. CARRIED. 11. ~OST OF NEWSLETT~R The Director of Parks and Recreation informed the Committee of the progress being made with regards to the obtaining of quotes on the printing of the Newsletter. (Note: Lowest quote for printed newsletter on bonded paper-Pickering Litho Print $400.00 for 12,000 copies) 12. LONG RANGE PARKS AND RECREATION PLANS The Director informed the Committee that the Parks and Recreation Department had hired two people under the Winter Work Incentive Program, for the purpose of undertaking a survey of the Recreation needs in East Rouge, Bay Ridges, and West Shore, Brougham, West Rouge, areas of the Township. A report on this survey will be forthcoming. 13. ADJOURNMENT - MOVED by Councillor Mrs.J. L. MCPherson, Seconded by Councillor D. Kitchen THAT the meeting be adjourned at 10:00 p.m. CARRIED. -3- 6. KEEP FIT ROOM AT DUNBARTON INDOOR POOL The Director of Parks and Recreation indicated ~o the Commi~tee that ~he keep fi~ room within Dunbarton High School would be available for use by the Township if we are prepared to supply additional equipment necessary in the operation of a community keep fit facility. The Director sugges~ed to the Committee that the pool tables at the Don Beer Sports Arena be moved to the Dunbarton High School so that more use could be made of them, and the original keep fit room in the Dunbarton Indoor Pool. Mgtion 12/72 MOVED by Councillor Mrs.J.L.McPherson,Seconded by Councillor K. Matheson THAT the Committee recommend to Council that the Pool Tables at the Don Beer Sports Arena be moved to the Keep Fit Room at Dunbarton Indoor Pool, that the pool room be supervised by the attendant on duty and that the usage be controlled by the participant making prior reservation to ensure that the poolroom does not become a hang out. The pool tables are to be rented at a fee of $1.00 per hour per table. CARRIED. 7. DEVELOPMENT OF PAR~ LANDS NORTH OF HYDRO PROPERTY AND WEST OF SANDY BEACH ROAD The Committee reviewed the Director's recommendations regarding the development of park land north of hydro property and west of Sandy Beach Road. The Committee instructed the Director of Parks and Recreation to meet with Mr. Bill MacLean of the Metropolitan Toronto and Region Conservation Authority to acquire more information regarding the AuthorityYs development plans for this area. 8. AGREEMENT ~fiTH WEST ROUGE SPORTS AND RECREATION ASSOCIATION --- The Director of Parks and Recreation presented the Committee with an agreement for Area Recreation Associations for the West Rouge Sports and Recreation Association which included the following addition "The West Rouge Sports and Recreation Association shall be deemed to be the Community Centre Board for the development of programs operating within the Rouge Hill Golf Club-Club House, and on the adjoining lands outlined in the,legal description of the lease with S~rick Homesir The Director recommended that the Committee authorize this agreement. Motion 13/72 MOVED by Councillor Kitchen,Seconded by Councillor Mrs.J.L.McPherson THAT the Committee Recommend to Council that the Clerk and Reeve be authorized to sign the regular Area Recreation Association Agreement with the \iest Rouge Sports and Recreation Association without any additional clauses. CARRIED. Note: It was indicated by the Committee that should West Rouge be annexed to Scarborough the Committee will consider the inclusion of a clause designed to protect the West Rouge Sports and Recreation Association in its endeavour to operate the Club House as a community Centre for the West Rouge citizens. ~ ~ ~ ----- ..
