Several items were missed in the Decision Making Section: M. Carpino indicated that they were included under the Operational Review. Decision Making was for how future decisions are made to include accessibility. - A summary page would have been helpful. Issue of sidewalks (connecting main arteries and intersections) needs to be addressed. Review seemed comprehensive - hope all gets done. Efforts of City staff appreciated. 3.0 Review Request from Pickering Progress Club to install a ram at the Pro ress ClubhoLlse. Prem reviewed the request from the City to install ramp at the Progress Clubhouse. Renovations have been made to the inside, but it is not accessible from outside. Committee comments included: - Who owns the buildin ,Cit or Pro ress Club? CORP0228-2/02 Comments from Committee to be incorporated into the final copy. Accessibility Plan to go forward at next Council Meeting, Oct 4/04 for approval. Will then be distributed to the public. Prem City to be advised of committee comments. Page 1 50% of the total accessibility budget is asking too much. - Would mean that 50% of the 2004 planned items would not get completed. Could the $15,000 not come from a capital fund? Did not support at this time. 4.0 Pro e StandardsB ...Iaw~; Tb 10 Issues Further to a meeting of City staff with regards to Property Standards by-laws, the Committtee was asked to identify their top priorities for review: AU I nformation to be forward to City staff for review. 1) Elevations that change over time (concrete/asphalt changes over time and is not fixed) 2) Automatic doors that are not in working order. Owners show not interest in fixing. Auto doors that may be turned off at night, and staff do not know how to turn on in the morning. 3) Automatic door opener buttons - some consistency of where they are located and how they are identified. ****Canadian Tire Store in Pickering: can't get in at all until someone at the courtesy desk lets you in / functionality of systems for people with disabilities / what happens in the event of an emergency? Inside of stores - property standards for the inside of stores, aisle widths etc. Who's responsible for these standards? 4) Parking Lots - concrete abutments that block paths to doorways. Not enough space for wheelchairs or even strollers. ie: Masseys Restaurant. 5) Snow Clearance of curb cuts - just does not happen. ie: Liquor Store at plaza at Whites & Kingston Roads. Curb cuts at both ends and in the middle. Snow ends up being dumped in the curb cut, or in the Disabled Spots. 6) New Industrial Malls - are not maneuverable. Storefront sidewalk properties are not wide enough. Grading of parking lots is not good. Locations of disabled parking spots are not well thought out. 7) Parking requirements of people who have mobility challenges - normal parking does not allow for disembarking for 1) people who get out on the passenger side, 2) vans for wheelchairs. 8) Lighting - at night not enough or proper lighting at store entrances (lower wattage lights put in) 9) Walkway at the Pickering Mall (on the upper level, west . side outside of Tuxedo Royale) - Trees have been replaced by signage that if you have a sight impairment ou would walk into. Not safe for low to no vision. Needs Page 2 CORP0228-2/02 to be ripped up and repaved. 5.0 Review of Site Plans 4 - CommentS: Committee reviewed 4 site plans and noted comments. All Signed comment sheets sent back to Tyler Barnett. 6..0 Other Business: 1) Prem advised that there will be a Joint AAC Regional Meeting sometime the Fall. Prem to advise when date /Iocation is determined. 2) Committee reviewed City of Cornwall's resolution to the Province for special ODA funding for staff. Committee agreed to issuing similar resolution.
