Dear Mr. Brunsma:
Re:
Request for Funding Support for a Fish Habitat Restoration Project Claremont
Conservation Area
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority is completing a Brook Trout habitat restoration
project in the Claremont Conservation Area, on Mitchell Creek and the East Branch of Duffins
Creek, with the objectives of stabilizing stream banks, restoring riparian vegetation and the
enhancement of in-stream cover. These improvements will help to sustain Brook Trout angling
opportunities for watershed residents on public lands°
To assist the City of Pickering staff who will be reviewing this funding application, I am
enclosing details on the projects being undertaken, a copy of the capital budget and the
approval letters from Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Trout Unlimited and the Ontario
Ministry of Natural Resources are contributing in-kind technical support to the project.
Depending upon weather conditions, there are potential opportunities for City of Pickering
community groups to assist with restoration plantings later this fall or early next spring. When
the project is completed signs will be erected acknowledging the funding support by the City
of Pickering.
The budget for the two stream projects totals $49,414. TRCA is requesting that the City of
Pickering contribute $10,000. Other funding sources for these projects include Conservation
Authority Levy and capital grants from the Regional Municipality of Durham.
If have any questions, please contact me at 416-661-6600 ext. 5385.
Yours truly,
Gary Bowen
