BY-LAW NUMBER
A By-law of the Township of Picketing
to prohibit the discharge of firearms
within a defined area.
WHEREAS it is deemed advisable to prohibit the discharge of guns or
other firearms in a defined area of the Township of Picketing;
AND WHEREAS Section 379 (1) R.S.O. 1960 reads "By-Laws may be passed
by the Councils of local municipalities "for prohibiting or regulating
the discharge of guns or other fire arms, air guns and spring guns, or
any class or type thereof in the municipality or in any defined area or
areas thereof";
AND WHEREAS under By-Laws 24~3 and 3047 the discharge of fire arms is
prohibited in certain built-up areas;
BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED by the Municipal Council of the Township of
Pickering that,
1. No person shall discharge a gun or other fire arms, air guns, or
spring guns, or any class or type thereof, in the following parts
of the municipality of the Township of Picketing:
(a) Commencing at the north shore of Lake Ontario where the
Townships of Scarborough and Picketing join;
THENCE easterly along the north shore of Lake Ontario to the
easterly limit of Lot i where the Townships of Whitby and
Picketing join;
THENCE northerly along the easterly limit of Lot i to a point,
being the northerly limit of the Third Concession Road;
THENCE westerly along the northerly limit of the Third
Concession Road to the westerly limit of Lot 35 where the
Townships of Scarborough and Picketing join;
THENCE southerly along the westerly limit of Lot 35 to the
north shore of Lake Ontario, bein~ the place of commencement.
(b) All that area commencing at the intersection of Valley Farm
Road and the Third Concession Road;
THENCE northerly along the easterly limit of Lot 21;
THENCE westerly along Concession 4 to westerly limit of Lot 24;
THENCE southerly along the westerly limit of Lot 24 to Third
Concession Line;
THENCE easterly along Third Concession Line to the place of
commencement.
2. Any person convicted of a breach of the provisions of this By-Law
shall forfeit and pay, at the discretion of the convicting magistrate,
a penalty not exceeding a sum of $50.00 for each offence, exclusive
of costs.
3. By-Laws Nos. 2~43 and 30~7 be and the same are hereby repealed.
