HomeMy WebLinkAboutBy-law 2343 .B Y - L A W .N U M B E.R 2 3 4 3 A BY-LAw OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF PICKEkING TO DEFINE A POLICE VILLAGE WITHIN THE ~ANING OF THE ASSESSMENT ACT FOR THE ASSESSING OF TELEPHONE AND TELEGRAPH COMPANIES .. WHEREAS Section 9 of the Assessment Act provides that Council may define Police Village areas in Townships where there is a density of population of not less than 150 persons per 500 acres of land; AND WH'.FA._~_~S the Assessment Act pro,des that 45 per cent of gross receipts of Telephone and Telegraph Companies in Police Village Areas so declared are liable for assessment and taxation; ~ND WHEPJ~A__S Wards 4 and 5 comprise 9,000 acres ~rith a population of 7,740 as of September 30, 1957, and such population is so spresd over the entire two wards that it would be difficult to take any 500 acres and not have 150 persons located thereon; A~D WHEREAS that portion of Ward 3 which lies in Lots 19, 20 and 21 between Highway Number 2 and the Second Concession line co~rising about 175 acres~ has a population of approximately 560 and abuts the former area; BE IT THEP~_O.I%E EN~CTED~y the Municipal Council of the Township of Picketing THAT /.~P~ 1. Wards 4 and 5 of the Township of Picketing comprising all of Lots 22 to 35 inclusive, between Lake Ontario and the Third Concession line and that portion of Ward 3 which inclu~s parts of Lots 19 to 21 inclusive between Highway Number 2 and the Second Concession line be and it is hereby defined as a Police Village Area. ~2.
