A BY-LAW OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF THE TOWNSHIP OF PICKERING, TO LEVY
A RATE TO COVER COST OF OPERATION OF THE SEVERAL FIRE DEPARTMENTS.
WHEREAS under By-Law No. 1823, a FIRE AREA was created, comprising
Lots Nos. 24 to 35 inclusive, from Lake Ontario to half way between
Concessions Nos. 3 and 4, known as FIRE AREA No. 1, and has an
Assessment of $2,75$,237.31.
AND WHEREAS the remaining part of the Township secures protection
from the Police Village of Claremont, and the Stou£fville, Ajax and
Brougham Fire Brigades;
AND WHEREAS the assessment for the Police Village of Claremont for
the year 1954 is § 328,379.22, and as they own their own local fire
fighting equipment, are exempt from further levy;
AND WHEREAS the assessment of the Municipality, excludingg Fire Area
No. 1, and the Police Village of Claremont, is 'w5,531,936.24;
AND WHEREAS Fire Area No. 1 requires the sum of $ 1,449.53, and the
remaining Area requires the sum of $ 2,212.77 for "THE OPERATION
OF FIRE EQUIPMENT" for the year 1954;
BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED by the Municipal Council of the Township of
Pickering:
1. That there be raised, levied and collected, from and upon
all the rateable property in Fire Area No. 1 in the year
1954, the rate or sum of .5 Mills on the Dollar, amounting
to $ 1,374.18 for the aforesaid purpose in the said year.
2. That there be raised, levied and collected, from and upon
all the rateable property in the Municipality, excluding
Fire Area No. 1, and the Village of Claremont, the rate or
sum of .4 Mills on the Dollar, amounting to $ 2,212.77 for
the aforesaid purposes in the said year. ,
