BY-LAW NUMBER 1832
A by-law to regulate garbage dumps
and the depositing of garbage,
refuse, waste or any other material
on private or public property in
the Township of Pickering, and to
prohibit the creating of nuisances
within the Township.
THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF PICKERING ENACTS
AS FOLLVWS:
11 (a) The dumping and unloading or placing of any garbage,
refuse, waste, second-hand material, or combustible
material in any place in the Township of Pickering,
without any authority in writing from the Council,
is prohibited.
(b) The dumping or unloading or placing of any material
which by reason of its creating a nuisance either from
j smell or from burning thereof, causing smoke, smell
or any other objectionable feature, is prohibited in
the Township.
(c) This shall not prevent the owner of any land using his
property for the purpose of dumping, unloading or placing
?J3' of any material which arises, develops or originates on
his own property, providing he complies with the other
provisions of this By-law.
2e The Council may permit the dumping of ashes alone provided
that such ashes are kept in a proper manner by keeping level and free
of any material that gives an untidy appearance and that at least six
inches (611) of clean earth is put on top of not more than every six
feet (61) of ashes and that, between the first of April and first of
December of each year, ashes and clean earth deposited on any land shall
not exceed fifty per cent (50%) of ashes*

3. No land shall be filled in such a manner as to block
yP or interfere wit} the normal flow or seepage of surface water,

water-course or storm waters.
4* It shall be the duty of all owners or occupants of the
Township to keep any lands used, owned or occupied by such a
resident or owner, in a clean and sanitary condition and no waste
paper, garbage or any unsightly condition shall be allowed to remain.
59 In the event of any owner or occupant permitting any lands
owned ??orppoccupied to have an unsightly or unsanitary condition, the
Z:-? ?/yy oz. shall have the right to correct such
condition and the owner or occupant responsible shall forthwith upon
demand pay the cost of correcting such condition, or upon failure
to pay, the cost may be collected by suit.
6. Any person convicted of a breach of any of the provisions
of this By-law shall forfeit and pay at the discretion of the convicting
Magistrate a penalty not exceeding (exclusive of costs) the sum of
Fifty Dollars ($50.00) for each offence. EvAry such penalty shall be
recoverable under "The Summary Convictions Act", all the provisions
of which shall apply hereto.
