A By-law to prohibit the running at large of dogs within the
Township of Plckering.
WHEREAS the Council of a Township is empowered sccording to the
provisloms of the Dog Tax and Livestock Protection Act E.S.0o 1937,
as amended, to prohibit the running at large of dogs within a Municipality
AND ~MTEREAS the Council of the Township of Pickerin~ deems it
advisable that the running at large of dogs be prohibited, except as
hereinafter provided, in the Township of Picketing.
BE IT THEREFOHE ENACTED by the Council of the Township of Plckerlmg
1. For the 0urpose of this By-law a dog shall be deemed to be run-
ning at large when found on a highway or other public or private place
and not under the control of any person.
2. Any person in possession of any dog or who shell harbour or allow
any dog to be or remain about his Or her home or premises shall be
deemed the owner thereof for all purposes of this By-law~

4. No owner shall allow any dog to run at large during the months
of M~y, June and July within the limits of t~ Municipality, with the
exception of farm dogs used or employed in the csre of cattle or sheep.
5. No person shall allow their dog to become a nuisance ( such as
by excessive barking, howling, or unduly bothering pedestrians or bi-
cyclists on any roadway) any person so aggrieved may appear before e
Justice of the Peace end swear out an information charging the owner
thereof with a breach of this section.
6. Any person shall be entitled to take charge of any dog found
running at large, and deliver the same to a pound keeper in the Town-
ship of Pickering or to a Constable of the Township of Pickering.
7. Any untagged dog, or any dog which may be captured pursuant to
the provisions of this By-law shall be detained for 72 hours during
which time the owner shall be entitled to redeem such animal upon
payment for the use of the ~unlcipali~y the sum of Two Dollars, if
such dog is not redeemed within the time above mentioned it shall be
lawful for the poundkeeper or servant of the ~unicipality appointed

for the purpose to sell or dispose of the dog in a manner which seems
expedient to him, ell monies accruing therefrom to be the property of
the Municipality.
8. Any dog found breaking any of the sections of this Act may be
impounded.
9. Any person convicted of ~ breach of any section of this By-law
shall be fined the s~un of Ten Dollars and costs for the first offence
end the sum of Twenty Dollars and costs for esch subsequent offence,
fine recoverable to the Municipality under the S~,m~ary Convictions
Act.
