A By-law to obtain the assent of the electors of the Police
Village of Pickering to the borrowing of $9,500.00 for the purposes
of a Community Memorial Hall.
WHYS the present Municipal buildings of the Police Village
of Pickering, in the Township of Pickering, have deteriorated to such
an extent that they are of no further use for the purpose for which
they were intended,
AND WItEREAS the Trustees of the ssid Police Village heve re-
quested the Council of the Township of Pickering to authorize e vote
of the electors of the said Police Village to decide whether they, the
said electors, desire to have a Community Memorial Hall erected to
serve the said Police Village as a Oommunity Hemoriel Hell end also as
a Municipal building for the said Police Village,
AND ?fPIEREAS there has been raised by public subscription the sum
of $6,658.50,
AND WHEREAS it is necessary to raise a further sum of Nine
Thousand Dollsrs-fiveahundred Dollars ($9,500.00),
AND WHEREAS it is necessary to pass this By-law for the purpose
of enabling the electors of the said Police Village to vote upon the
said By-law for the borrowing of the said sum of $9,500.00, a copy of
which is marked Schedule 'A', hereto,
THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF TH!~ T0~'~WSHIP OF
PICKERING ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. A vote of the electors who are entitled to vote on money By-
laws for the Police Village of Pickering shsll be taken on 16th day of
June, 1948, between the hours of ten o'clock in the forenoon and seven
o'clock in the afternoon.
2. The vote shall be taken at the Pickering Hall and the Deputy
Returning Officer shall be If. C. Mnrker, and the Poll Clerk shell be
Miss E. A. Richerdson.
3. The form of Ballot upon which the vote will be taken is set
forth as Schedule 'B', hereto.
4. Voters who favour the By-law end assent thereto shall place en
"X" in the space upon the Ballot marked "for the By-lsw" and those
against the By-law shall place an "X' in the space upon the Ballot
marked "against the By-lsw'.

5. The Reeve of the Township of Pickering, or a Member of the
Council duly appointed for that purpose, shall attend at the office
of the Township of Pickerlng ~lunicipal Hsll st Brougham, in the
Township of Pickering, on Tuesday, the 15th day of June, 1948, st
the hour of four o'clock in the afternoon snd, if requested so to do,
shall appoint in writing signed by him, two persons to attend the
final summing up of the votes given for end egsinst the said Question
and one person to attend on behalf of th~ persons interested in and
desirous of promoting the proposed Question and voting in the affirma-
tive thereon and a like number on behalf of the persons interested in
and desirous of opposing the proposed Question and voting in the negative
theraon.
6. The procedure to be taken for such vote shall, with
as shall be necessary, be the procedure prescribed for use
annual ~unicipal Elections.
7. The Clerk of the Township of Plckering shall attend at the Clerk's
office at ~roughsm on Thursday the 17th day of June, 1948, the following
day, at ten o'clock in the forenoon for the purpose of summing up the
votes given for and agsinst the said By-law.
