BY-LAW Number 1722
By-law to repeal By-law Number 1721.
By-law to assess the Municipality of the Township of Pickering,
exclusive of the Police Villages of Picketing and Claremont, for the
improvement and repair of roads and bridges, payment of salaries and
the general expenses of the Corporation, in the year 1947; to assess
the said Police Villages of Pickering and Claremont for village and
township purposes in the said year; to assess the ~hole of the said
Municipality to defray the cost of relief during the said year; to
assess the whole of the said ~unicipallty for a general school rate,
to provide funds for the township statutory grants to public schools
in the said year; to assess the whole of the said ~unicipality, in
the year 1947, for roads and general purposes of the County of Ontario;
and in the same year to assess the whole of the said ~unicipality,
excepting the two continuation school districts which are composed of
Public School Sections 4Lest and lB of the said township, for use of
the County in aiding in the maintenance of High and Continuation
Schools, in the said year.
W~B~AS it will require the sum of $34,235.28 from that part of
the Municipality of the Township of ~ickering apart from the Police
Villages of Pickering amd Claremont for the improvement and repair
of roads and bridges, the payment of salaries end the general expen-
ses of the ~unicipality, in the year 1947:
AND WHEREAS it will require the sum of $1,661.80 to defray the
general expenses of the Police Village of Plckering and to cower the
share of the Police Village in sundry services end expenses of the
Municipality during the said year:
AND WHEREAS it will require the sum of $1,135.58 to defray tbs
general expenses of the Police Village of Claremont and to cover the
share of the Police Village in sundry services end expenses of the
~unicipality during the said year:
AND WHEREAS it will require the sum of $3,822.18 to defray the
cost to the whole of the Municipality of relief to the unemployed
and poor and hospitalization of same, in the said year:
AND V~HEREAS the amount to be raised by general levy from ths
whole of the said ~unicipallty, in the present year for the pay-
ment of the statutory township grants to public schools required

by Section ll2 of the Public Schools Act, R. S. 0. 1937, es the same
has been emended by Section 34 of the Public Schools ~nnendment Act,
1938, is the sum of $17,202.56:
AND WHEREAS ~he County CounOil'of the County of Ontario will re-
quire the levy and collection from and upon ell the rsteable property
in the Municipality of the Township of Picketing, in the year 1947, of
the following amounts for the purposes of the said County, th~ is to
say:
For General Purposes $21,459.27
For County Roads $19,224.8§
For Suburban Roads $ 768.26
~or County Home $ 555.36

$42.007.74
AND wMEREAS under authority of the Public Schools Act, it is estimated
by the said County Council it will require the levy end collection from
end upon all those portions of the said Municipality of the Township of
Pickering as are not included within the limits of the Continuation
Schools Districts composed of Public School Sections humbers 4 West
end 15, in the year 1947, the stem of $9,970.83 for the use of the acid
County in paying the grants and allowances to High and Continuation
Schools as required by the provisions of the said Public Schools Act.
AND WHEREAS thetotal amount of taxable property in the said Muni-
cipality, apart from the Police Villages of Pickering snd Cleremont,
in the year 1947, is $3,926,063.89:
AND WHEREAS the total amount of taxable property in the said Police
Village of Pickering, in the said year, is $190,573.70:
AND WHEREAS the total amount of taxable property in the said Police
Village of Claremont, in the said year, is $130,227.46:
AND WHEREAS the total amount of taxable property in the said Muni-
cipality, including all portions thereof, in the said year 1947, is
the sum of $4,246,665.05:
AND WHEREAS the total amount of taxable property in the Continuation
School District composed of Public School Section Number 4 West, in the
said year, is $311,933.05:
AND WHEREAS the total amount of taxable property in the Continuation
School District, composed of Public School Section.Number 15, in the
said year, is $299,387.46:

AND ~EREAS the total amount of taxable property in the said
Municipality, apsrt from the said Continuation School Districts, in the
said year, is $3,635,544.54:
BE IT THEREFORE !,~ACTED by the Municipal Corporation of the Town-
ship of Pickering:
1. That there be raised, levied snd collected from ~nd upon all the
rateable property in the ~unicipsllty of the Township of Plckerin~,
exclusive of the Police Villages of Pickering and Claremont, the rate
or sum of 8.72 mills on the dollar, which will amount to the sum of

2. That there be raised, levied and collected from and upon all the
taxable property in the Police Village of Pickering, in the year 1947,
the rate or sum of 8.72 mills on the dollar, which will amount ~o the
sum of ,1,661.80, for the purposes of the said village snd township,
as stated in the said preamble.
Z. That there be raised, levied and collected from and upon all the

the rate or sum of 8.72 ~ills on the dollar, which will amount to the
sum of $1,135.58, for the purposes of the said village and township,
as stated in the said preamble.

5. That there be raised, levied and collected from and upon all the
rateable property in the said ~unleipslity, including the said Police
Villages of Pickering and Claremont, in the year 1947, the rate or sum
of 4.05 mills on the dollar, which ~ill amount to the sum of $17,199.98
for the purposes of statutory township grants to the public schools in
the said ~nicipelity, in the said year, ss stated in the said preamble.
6. That there be raised,levied and collected from and upon all the
rateable property in the said ~unicipality of the Township of Picker-
