HomeMy WebLinkAboutBy-law 1716A BY-LAW TO PROHIBIT THE RUL~IN(~ AT L~RGE OF DOGS WITHIN THAT PORTION OF THE T0~NSHIP OF PICK~RING, KNOWN AS THE AREA OF AJAX, BEING PART OF THE NORTH ItALVES OF LOTS NOS. EIGHT, I~iI~E AND TEN IN THE 1ST CONCESSION OF THE TO~NSHIP OF PIC~ING, IN THE COUNTY OF 0NTAP~I0. WHEREAS the Council of a Township is empowered according to the provisions of the Dog Tax and L~vestock Protection'Act, R.S.0. 1937, as amended, to prohibit the running at large of dogs within a defined part of the said Municipality, AND V~ItEREAS the Council of the Township of Picketing deems it advisable that the running at large of dogs be prohibited in the hereinafter defined part of the Township of Pickering, BE IT THEREFORE ENgCTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE TOV~NSHIP OF PICKE~ING:- 1. That the running at large of dogs in that part of the Town- ship of Pickering defined as the area within the area of Ajax, being part of the North Halves of Lots numbers 8, 9 and l0 in the 1st Con- cession of the T?wnship of P~.ckering, in the County of Ontario, be and the same is hereby prohibited. 2. For the purpose of this By-18~v a dog shall be deemed to be running at large when found on a high~Ry or other public or private place and not under the control of 8ny person. ~. Any person being the owner or keeper of any dog who permits th~ said dog to run at large contrary to the provisions of this By- law shall be guilty of an offenc~ a~'~inst the prov~sions of this By-law. ~. Any person shall b~ entitled to t~ke chsrge of any dog found running at large and del~ver the same to a poundkeeper in the Township of Pickering or to a Constable of t e Township of Pickerimg. 5. In addition to all other previsions of this By-law a Constable of the Township of picketing may kill any dog found by him running at large or delivered to him according to the provisions of this By-law. 6. Where any dog has been del~vere~ to a poundkeeper of the ToYm- ship of Pickering, the poundkeeper shall receive the dog and unless claimed.by the owner within forty-eight hours it m~y be killed. 7. In addition to all other provisions of this By-law a Constable of the Township of Pickerin~ may k~ll any dog found by him runntn& at large or delivered to hl~ aooordin6 to the provisions of this By-law. &. Where any dog has been delivered to a poundk®eper of the Town. ship of Picker~n6, the poun~keeper shall reoeive the dog and unless olaimed by the owner within forty-ei6ht hours it may be ?. The poun~kseper shall be entitled to deliver the dog thereafter to any person who claims the dog upon payment to the poun~keeper of thXs By-law shall forfeXt and pay, at the dtecretlon of Ma£istrate, a penalty not exoeeding (exolueive of $~0.00 for each offenoe. the ~u~ of $2.00, together with any additional ooets. 8. Xn the event that no person slaims the dog, the poundkeeper my thereupon kill the asides. ~.
