OF
WHEREAS by Section 26 of the Highway-Traffic Act, Chapter2~, R.S.O.,
1937, the Council of any Township may by reason of the dens~ty of
population, or number or proximity of buildings therein, or in ~ny
part thereof, by By-Law approved by the Department of Highways~ prohibit
a motor vehicle from being operated at a greater rate of speed than
thirty miles per hour in the Township, or such part or parts thereof;
or on such h~ghways or parts of h~ghways therein, ~s the By-Law may
define, and ~rect ~n such case notices re6ardin~ the speed l~mit shall
be Dosted on the highways of the Township to comply with the Regulations
of the said Department;
AND WHEREAS the Brock Road and Ninth Concession Line of the sa~d Town-
ship being both County roads intersect ~n the centre of the ~olice
V~llage of Claremont and both bein~ heavily travelled roads several
accidents have happened thereat and therson~ due to the h~gh rate of
speed at which many motor vehicles pass through or over the intersection
of said highways, and it ~s due to numerous complaints from residents
of the said Police Village that this ~y-Law ~s being passed and the
Department of Highways being asked to confirm a red,~ction in the ex~sting
speed l~mit on said highways within the limits of the sa~d Police Village
of Claremont.
BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED by the Council of the ~unicipal Corporation of
the Township of Picketing:
The operating of a motor vehicle on (1) the port~on of the sa~d
Brock Road which extends from a point which is f~fty rods south of
the northern limit of the Eighth Concession of the said To~ship
of Pickering north to a point in the Ninth Concession of the said
Township which is 300 rods north of the south limit of the Ninth
Concession of the same Township (a total distance of 354 rods) and
(2) on that portion of the Ninth Concession line which extends from
a point that is ten rods east of the western limit of Lot Number 17
in said Ninth Concession and which extends westerly therefrom to a
point opposite the west limit of Lot ~[umber 19 in the said Ninth
Concession of said Township, at a greater rate of speed than thirty
miles per hour is hereby prohibited.
Notices regarding such speed limit shall be posted on the said
highways, or on that and other highways, as may be necessary in
complying with the Regulations of the Department of Highways for
Ontario.
Any person who violates any of the provisions of this By-Law shall
incur, for the first offence a penalty of not less than .~ 5.00 and
not more than ~ 50.00 for the second offence a penalty of not less
than $ 10.00 and not more than ~ 100.00 and in addition his license
or permit may be suspended for any period not exceeding three months
and for any subsequent offence shall incur a penalty of not less
than ~ 20.00 and not more than ~ 200.00, and in addition his license
or permit may be suspended for any period not exceedin6 six months.

define, and direct in such case notices regarding the speed limit shall
be posted on the highways of the Township to comply with the ~egulations
of the said Department;
AND WHEREAS the Brock Road and Ninth Concession Line of the said Town-

Village of Claremont and both being heavily travelled roads several
accidents have happened thereat and thereon, due to the high rate of
speed at which many motor vehicles pass through or over the intersection
of said highways, and it is due to numerous complaints from residents
of the said Police Village that this By-Law is being passed and thc
Department of Highways being asked to confirm a reduction in the existing
speed limit on said highways within the limits of the said Police Village
of Claremont.
BE .~T THEREFORE ENACTED by the Council of the Mm~icipal Corporation of
the Township of Picketing:
The operating of a motor vehicle on (1) the portion of the said
Brock Road which extends from a point which is fifty rods south of
the northern lim/t of the Eighth Concession of the said To~ship
of Picketing north to a point in the Ninth Concession of the said
Township which is 300 rods north of the south limit of the Ninth
Concession of the same Township (a total distance of 355 rods) and
(2) on that portion of the Ninth Concession line which extends from
a point that is ten rods east of the western li~t of Lot Number 17
in said Ninth Concession and which extends westerly therefrom to a
point opposite the west limit of Lot Number 19 in the said Ninth
Concession of said Township, at a greater rate of speed than thirty
miles per hour is hereby prohibited.
Notices regarding such speed limit shall be posted on the said
highways, or on that and other highways, as may be necessary in
complying with the Regulations of the Department of Highways for
Ontario.
