struction of culverts upon highways
under the jurisdiction of the Township
of Pickering, and to repeal By-law
~umber 3148.
IT IS HEREBY ENACTED by the Municipal Council of the Township
of Pickering, that;
1. No person shall construct or cause to be constructed
a culvert upon any highway under the jurisdiction of
the Township of Picketing unless in compliance with
the following regulations:
(a) The application for the construction of a culvert
shall be in writing on a form provided by the
Township Engineer for the Township, signed by the
applicant as owner of premises adjacent to the
highway requesting the construction of a culvert
and shall be accompanied by payment in advance
for the amount required to be paid for the con-
struction of such culvert as hereinafter provided.
(b) The applicant shall furnish in writing, when
requested to do so, particulars of the place where
the culvert is to be constructed.
The applicant shall also plant two stakes in the
ground marking the location of the culvert to
be so constructed.
(c) The applicant shall pay to the Treasurer of the
Township of Pickering the sum of $125.OO for a
normal sized culvert. A normal sized culvert is
hereby defined to mean for the purposes of this
by-law a culvert 18 feet in length and not less
than 15 inches or more than 18 inches in diameter.
Where an applicant requires a normal sized culvert
longer than eighteen feet, he shall pay in
addition to other charges the sum of $6.?9 per
foot for each foot of culvert in excess of eighteen
feet, plus the cost of the required couplers.
Where an applicant requires a culvert having a
diameter larger than 18 inches, he shall pay,
in addition to other charges provided for in
this by-law, such sum as the Council shall prescribe.
(d) No culvert shall be constructed on a highway under
the jurisdiction of the Township of Picketing
unless it be of standard galvanized corrugated
steel pipe construction of not less than eighteen
feet in length and 15 inches in diameter or of
such other construction as approved by the
Township Engineer or someone authorized by him
in that behalf.
2. Any person convicted efa breach of any of the pr~visions
of this by-law shall forfeit and pay at the discretion of
the convicting magistrate a penalty not exceeding ($xclusive
of costs) the sum of Three Hundred Dollars ($300.00} for
each offence.

3. By-law No. 3198 be and the same is hereby repealed.
