BY-LAW OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TONNSIIIP OF PICKERING TO AUTHORIZE
RRTICIPATION IN THE ONTARIO MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT SYSTBI.1.
lEREAS pursuant to section 15 of The Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement
'stem Act, 1961-62, a municipality or local board may by by-law or resolution
act to participate in the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System and
y to the fund the total of the employer and employee contributions, and
is all the powers necessary and incidental thereto;
iW THEREFORE BE IT ENACTED as a by-law of the Corporation of the Township of
ckering, herein called the Employer, as follows;
The Employer hereby elects to participate in the Ontario Municipal
Employees Retirement System as of the first day of July, 1965, herein
called the effective date, and authorizes the Clerk to submit this
election in writing, by provision of a certified copy of this by-law,
to the Secretary-Treasurer of the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement
Board.
Every employee who before the effective date, was an employee of the
Employer is entitled to become a meriber of the System if he is employed
on a continuous full-time basis and at least 757 of the employees so
employed become members.
Every person who becomes an employee of the Employer on or after the
effective date shall, as a condieion of his employment, become a member
of the System, or if he is already a member resume his contributions to
the System, during the first twelve months of service on a continuous
full-time basis, provided however that if he is already a member of
the System or any other approved pension plan, as defined in the Ontario
Municipal Employees Retirement System Act, 1961-62, contributions by
and on his behalf may, on the election of the employee, commence on any
date during the first six months of his service.
The Clerk of the Township of Pic:-cring is hereby authorized to arrange
for the deduction from the earnin-s of each employee who is a member
of the System, the contributions required to be made by the nember, and
to remit such contributions toGether with the amounts required under
the Act to be paid by the Employer, to the Secretary-Treasurer of the
Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement Board, and to execute all
necessary documents and to do such things as are necessary to carry out
the intent of this by-law.
The Employer hereby certifies that employees who are engaged as
policemen and firemen retire at a3c 60.
By-Law 2995 be and the same is hereby repealed.
