BY-LAW NUMBER 333/75
Being a By-law to amend By-law 72/74
respecting the licensing and registration
of dogs.
The Council of the Corporation of the Town of Pickering hereby
enacts as follows:
1. Subsection (a) of section 9 of By-law 72/74 is hereby
repealed and the following substituted therefor:
(a) For each dog the sum of fifteen dollars (15.00).
2. Clauses 2, 3, 4 and 5 of subsection (b) of section 12 of
the said By-law are hereby repealed and the following
substituted therefor:
(2) The Owner pays to the Peace Officer or Animal
Control Officer or other duly authorized person a
pound fee for each dog seized and impounded, plus
a daily maintenance fee for each day that the dog
remains impounded subsequent to the day of seizure.
3. Section 12 of the said By-law is further amended by
adding thereto the following subsections:
(ba) (1) The amount of the pound fee payable under
clause 2 of subsection (b) shall be:
1. $10.00, if no other pound fee has been
paid or payable with respect to that dog
during the twelve months immediately
preceding the date of seizure and impounding; or
2. $15.00, if a pound fee has been paid or
payable with respect to that dog on not more
than one other occasion during the twelve
months immediately preceding the date of
seizure and impounding; or
3. $25.00, if a pound fee has been paid or
payable with respect to that dog on two or
more occasions during the twelve months
immediately preceding the date of seizure
and impounding.
(2) The amount of the maintenance fee payable under
clause 2 of subsection b shall be three dollars
($3.00) per day for each day that the dog remains
impounded subsequent to the day of seizure.
(bb) (1) If the Peace Officer or Animal Control Officer
is unable to seize and impound any dog found
to be at large contrary to the provisions hereof,
the Owner of the dog shall be required to pay a
pound fee to the Officer or to the Town within
seven days of any request therefor as if the dog
has been seized and impounded.

(2) The amount of the pound fee payable under clause 1
of subsection bb shall be equal to the amount of
the pound fee payable under clause 2 of subsection b,
as set out in clause 1 of subsection ba.
(bc) Any female dog found to be running at large in heat
shall be held at a pound until no longer in heat,
but in any case, no longer than twenty one days.
(bd) The Owner of any dog impounded, whether the dog is
claimed from the pound or not, shall be liable for
any pound or maintenance fees attributable to that
dog under this section and shall pay such fees as
required or on demand of the Animal Control officer.
This By-law will become effective the first day of January 1976.
