Being a by-law to
credit in respect

WHEREAS The Municipal Elderly Resident's Assistance Act, 1973,
allows Council to authorize a tax credit for certain elderly
residents provided they qualify:
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Town of
Pickering HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. That the Treasurer of the Corporation be and he is hereby
authorized and directed to allow a credit on the real property
taxes imposed by the Corporation for municipal and school
purposes, on payment by any person of the remaining portion of
the taxes imposed in respect of any residentail real property
owned and solely occupied by such person or owned by his or her
spouse or by both, as his, her or their personal residence only,
where such person or the spouse of such person, or both, has
attained the age of sixty-five years and is receiving a monthly
guaranteed income supplement under Part II of the Old Age
Security Act (Canada), provided however that no such credit
(a) shall exceed the sum of $100.00 in any year:
(b) shall be allowed to any person or to the spouse of
such person, in respect of more than one single family
dwelling unit in any year;
(c) shall be allowed to any person who has not made
written application therefor to the Corporation on the
forms provided verified by statutory declaration, to the
Clerk of the Corporation on or before the last day of
April in the year 1975 and the last day of February in
each succeeding year, in which the taxes in respect of
which such application is made become due and payable.
(d) shall be allowed to any person who has not attained
the age of sixty-five years on or before December 31st
in the year immediately preceding the year in which he
or she made application therefor.

2. The application referred to in Section 1 (c) shall be
verified by the Statutory Declaration of the applicant and
shall set forth:
(a) Age, date of birth, name and address of the personal
residence of the applicant, being the property in respect
of which the credit must be claimed.
(b) Marital status of the applicant.
(c) Age, date of birth, name and address of the spouse
of the applicant.

(d) Particulars as to amount of monthly income of the
applicant under the Old Age Security Act (Canada) including
the monthly guaranteed income supplement under Part II of
the said Act.
(e) Particulars as to amount of monthly income of the
spouse of the applicant under the Old Age Security Act
(Canada) including the monthly guaranteed income supplement
under Part II of the said Act.
(f) Particulars of all residential real properties within
the Town of Pickering owned and occupied by the applicant
for a period of one year immediately preceding the date of
application.
(g) Particulars of all residential real properties within
the Town of Pickering owned and occupied by the spouse of
the applicant for a period of one year immediately preceding
the date of application.
