BY-LAW NUMBER 769/78
Being a By-law to fix instalment dates,
penalty amounts and interest rates
respecting the payment and collection
of taxes.
WHEREAS By-law Number 354/76 provides generally for the
payment and collection taxes;
AND WHEREAS, pursuant to that By-law, it is deemed expedient
at this time to fix the due dates for the payment of instal-
ments of taxes, to fix the amount of penalty for non-payment
of taxes, and to fix rates of interest on unpaid taxes;
AND WHEREAS, the Municipal Act, Section 521A provides that
a separate notice may be given specifying the amount of taxes
payable for all purposes except School purposes;
THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Town of
Pickering enacts as follows:
1. Taxes levied for 1978 under By-law Number 354/76
shall be collected as follows:
TOWN AND REGION
Due date of FIRST INSTALMENT - March 28th 1978
Due date of SECOND INSTALMENT - April 26th 1978
EDUCATION
Due date of FIRST INSTALMENT - June 26th 1978
Due date of SECOND INSTALMENT - September 25th 1978
2. The amount of the penalty for non-payment of 1978 taxes
or any instalment thereof shall be one (1) percent of
the outstanding amount imposed on the first day of
default and on the first day of each calendar month
thereafter in which default continues, but not after
the end of the year 1978.
3. The Town Treasurer-Tax Collector shall add to the amount
of all taxes, due and unpaid in 1978, interest at the
rate of one (1) percent of the amount unpaid per month
for each month or fraction thereof after the 31st day
of December 1978 and shall continue to collect such
unpaid taxes together with interest at the aforesaid
rate until such taxes are paid.
By-law read a first, second and third time and PASSED to open
Council this sixth day of March 1978.
