Shaheen Azmi and Remi Warner, Azmi and Warner Consulting
Re: Anti-Black Racism Action Plan Work Plan
Shaheen Azmi, Remi Warner, and Akilah Haneef-Jabari from Azmi and Warner
Consulting provided an update to the Taskforce regarding the Anti-Black Racism
Action Plan Project.
Delegations
There were no delegations.
General Business
City Updates: Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
D. YewWoon and J. San Antonio provided updates to the Taskforce regarding:
the 2026 Municipal Election, and the responsibility of Taskforce Members to
be aware of and declare any conflicts and maintaining neutrality during
Taskforce initiatives throughout this period;
•
the City's participation in the Pride Durham Parade on June 6 from 1:00 pm -
2:00 pm;
•
the recruitment and application process for the next term of the Taskforce;•
June 4, 2026 being the Taskforce's last monthly meeting and that planned
Taskforce events and initiatives would continue to be carried out; and,
•
the stipend process for Taskforce Members.•
Staff and Taskforce Members exchanged appreciatory remarks for their support

throughout the term of the Taskforce.
Subcommittee Updates
Community Engagement
D. David and A. Fraser provided an update to the Taskforce regarding:
the Taskforce's presence at Artfest;•
the Emancipation Day Event on August 5, 2026 from 5:30 pm - 8:30
pm in Oshawa;
•
Pickering Ribfest happening from June 19-21, 2026;•
City of Pickering's Canada Day Celebration happening on July 1,
2026; and,
•
Pickering Food Truck Festival happening from August 7-9, 2026.•
International Day for People of African Descent
D. YewWoon provided the Taskforce an update regarding the International
Day for People of African Descent (IDPAD), speaking to:
the event being scaled back and change of location to Oshawa this
year;
•
the Town of Ajax's invitation to the Taskforce to participate in their
Emancipation Day Train Ride Event;
•
the opportunity to potentially coordinate a joint event with
the Taskforce for IDPAD.
•
O. Williams and D. Dill indicated interest in assisting with the IDPAD
Event and other Members would be solicited for interest by email.
Taskforce Feedback
D. David solicited feedback from the Taskforce. D. Yew Woon and J. San Antonio
spoke to the feedback gathering process that will inform the next term of the
Taskforce.
Staff and Taskforce Members exchanged further appreciatory remarks for their
support throughout the term of the Taskforce.
