David called the meeting to order, read the Land Acknowledgement, and disclosed that she would Chair the meeting in the absence of O. Grignon. 2. Review and Approval of Agenda Moved by A. Presentations 5.1 Ellen Tayles-Armstrong, (Acting) Curator, Community Services Re: Roots to Rebellion Exhibit Update E. Tayles-Armstrong provided an update regarding the Grand Opening of the Roots to Rebellion Exhibit at the Pickering Museum Village that occurred on August 16, 2024. 6. Delegations There were no delegations. 7. General Business 7.1 City Updates: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion J. San Antonio spoke to the City’s EDI Strategy and provided information regarding the City’s new EDI webpage. J. San Antonio spoke to the Council EDI training session that that took place recently and the ongoing training opportunities that are being implemented. 7.2 Executive Updates Resignations D. David provided an update to the Taskforce regarding the recent resignation of B. Loiseau and K. Petrolo. D. David acknowledged them for their time and dedication to the Taskforce and wished them well moving forward. Budget S. Mascoll spoke to the Taskforce budget, including the invoices received to date and the need to have all invoices submitted to the City by the end of November. 7.3 Subcommittee Updates Page 3 of 5 Item/ Ref # Details & Discussion & Conclusion (summary of discussion) Action Items/Status (include deadline as appropriate) Consultation and Co-Design Subcommittee K. Hanson provided an update to the Taskforce regarding the RFP process for the Consultation and Co-Design project, and indicated that the RFP has been drafted for the Taskforce and the City to review. Community Partnerships Subcommittee A. Fraser spoke to the events that occurred over the summer months including the Community Barbecue. A. Fraser showed various photos of the events and highlighted the community partners involved. A. Fraser also shared a list of various community partners that the Taskforce has or can be engaged with moving forward and solicited the Taskforce for any additions they may want to add to the list. A. Fraser indicated that Taskforce Members can let him know by email if they have others to add to the list. D. Denise spoke to Community Barbecue Event and highlighted successes including publicity of the event in the Caribbean Camera magazine. J. San Antonio provided the Taskforce information regarding the City’s Community Grant Program and shared regrets on behalf of Mayor K. Ashe who was not able to attend this meeting. Marketing and Promotions Subcommittee C.C. Canzius provided updates including: • the successful use of promotional items at various event throughout the summer; • the engagement with Deeply Dope Tees for the creation of PABRT t-shirts; • the need to acquire new promotional material; and, • the popularity of the fist-shaped stress balls. David spoke the Taskforce’s involvement inCommunity Events including: •Emancipation Day; •Initiatives by the Municipality ofClarington; and •Durham Region’s Municipal DEISymposium. The Taskforce discussed their successes connecting with the community over the summer through various events. 8. Correspondence There was no correspondence. 9. Other Business 9.1 Peace Your Way to Success by Kenisha Hanson D. David congratulated K. Hanson for the releaseof her new book titled Peace Your Way toSuccess. 9.2 Cultural Fusion Fair A.Fraser highlighted the Cultural Fusion Fair happening in the Esplanade Park on September14, 2024 from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm, andencouraged Members and the public to attend. 9.3 Day of Truth and Reconciliation Initiatives J. San Antonio highlighted various initiatives to honour the National Day for Truth andReconciliation happening in the month ofSeptember including: •the Truth and Reconciliation CommunityGathering on September 30, 2024 from10:00 am – 3:00 pm; •the Every Child Matters Flag Raising Ceremony on September 17, 2024 at 10:00 am; and, Page 5 of 5 Item/ Ref # Details & Discussion & Conclusion (summary of discussion) Action Items/Status (include deadline as appropriate) • the Community Orange Shirt installation in Esplanade Park from September 9, 2024 – October 7, 2024. 9.4 Feedback regarding Emancipation Day Event The Taskforce discussed positive feedback received from the community regarding the hosting of the Emancipation Day Event in Pickering and highlighted the Taskforce’s contributions to the event’s success. 9.5 Taskforce Stipends J. San Antonio reminded the Taskforce that she will be soliciting Members to report the time worked on Taskforce projects and initiatives so that stipends can be processed before year-end. 9.6 Black Joy Holiday Market Update A. Fraser reminded the Taskforce of the upcoming Black Joy Holiday Market Event and that work will start getting underway soon. The Taskforce also discussed the dates and times that the Black Joy Holiday Market will be running in November. 10. Next Meeting The next meetings are scheduled for October 3, 2024 at 7:00 pm and November 7, 2024 at 7:00 pm. 11. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned. Meeting Adjourned: 8:00 pm
