Plaques are to commemorate official openings of a facility, or official re-openings of a facility that has been substantially renovated, or where a significant addition to the facility has been constructed. Index 01 Definitions 02 Scope 03 Roles and Responsibilities 04 Plaque Criteria 01 Definitions 01.01 City – The Corporation of the City of Pickering. 01.02 City Property – refers to all properties owned by the City including: (a) structures within a park (i.e., pavilions, gazebos, outdoor splash pads, outdoor washroom facilities, outdoor ice rinks, etc.); (b) community centres, arenas, and other specialty buildings and rooms; (c) multi-use trails; (d) indoor recreation fields and courts; Procedure Title: City Facility Plaque Criteria Page 2 of 4 Procedure Number: ADM 110-009 (e) outdoor recreation fields and courts; (f) libraries; (g) bridges; (h) fire halls; and (i) community gardens. 01.03 Commemorative Program – a memorial program where the City invites the public to pay tribute to a loved one by purchasing a bench or tree for installation in a public park or open space; or, where the public may pay tribute to a loved pet and have it displayed at the Dunmoore Park Leash Free Area. 01.04 Facility – all City properties that are owned, leased, licensed or occupied/operated by the City including any public buildings or building portion, parkland and open space. 01.05 Plaque – a Plaque approved to be installed in a Facility to commemorate official openings of a Facility; or to commemorate official re-openings of a Facility that has been substantially renovated or where a significant addition to the Facility has been constructed. 02 Scope 02.01 The Facility must be owned or operated by the City. 02.02 This procedure applies to all City Plaques. 02.03 This procedure does not apply to: • Plaques related to a Commemorative Program; • Public art programs; • Plaques installed to commemorate the designation of properties under the Ontario Heritage Act; • Interpretive signage (e.g., historic or informational); • Way finding signage; and • Plaques related to sponsorship agreements. 03 Roles and Responsibilities 03.01 Chief Administrative Officer: a) approve this procedure and any amendments as required; and b) approve any exceptions to the Plaque standards outlined in this procedure. Procedure Title: City Facility Plaque Criteria Page 3 of 4 Procedure Number: ADM 110-009 Division Head, Public Affairs & Corporate Communications: a)consider and approve all final renderings of Plaques prior to their ordering and production; and b)coordinate with Division Head, Operations Services or Manager, Landscape & Parks Development in preparation for site selection and installation. Division Head, Operations Services: a)initiate design of Plaques for City buildings and indoor amenities; b)seek approval, as may be required, for properties and facilities that are leased by the City; c)coordinate efforts with other City staff to provide the preliminary draft design; d)coordinate with Division Head, Public Affairs & Corporate Communications in preparation for site selection and installation; and e)ensure consistency is maintained between Plaque designs for City buildings and indoor amenities. Manager, Landscape & Parks Development: a)initiate design of Plaques for City parks and outdoor amenities; b)seek approval, as may be required, for properties and facilities that are leased by the City; c)coordinate efforts with other City staff to provide the preliminary draft design; d)coordinate with Division Head, Public Affairs & Corporate Communications in preparation for site selection and installation; and e)ensure consistency is maintained between plaque designs for City parks and outdoor amenities. 04 Plaque Criteria 04.01 All Plaques must: a)be made of durable material (i.e., aluminum or similar product). Bronze will not be permissible material for an exterior Plaque installation; b)include the current City logo; Procedure Title: City Facility Plaque Criteria Page 4 of 4 Procedure Number: ADM 110-009 c)include the name or title of the project and its year of completion; d)be in compliance with the City’s writing guide and corporate standards regarding font type, font size and format; e)include the name of the current term of Mayor on the date of the Facility opening or re-opening; f)include the names of the current term of Regional and City Councillors by Ward on the date of the Facility opening or re-opening; g)include the name of the Chief Administrative Officer on the date of the Facility opening or re-opening; h)be aligned in symmetrical way; and i)be installed in a high traffic area (i.e., lobby) at eye level for City buildings and indoor and outdoor amenities. 04.02 Plaques may include: a)names of architects, landscape architects and general contractors; b)names of the Departmental Director and designated staff lead for the project (as determined by the Departmental Director); and c)additional information as may be required to fulfill grant or naming right agreement obligations.
